The federal government and the Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry have signed a memorandum of understanding to jointly pursue economic objectives under the Uraan Pakistan programme, marking a step toward closer coordination between policymakers and the business community. The agreement aims to support export-led growth and align public and private sector efforts with the government’s long-term vision of transforming Pakistan into a $3 trillion economy by 2047.
The MoU was signed during a ceremony held at the FPCCI President Secretariat in Islamabad by Federal Minister for Planning Ahsan Iqbal and FPCCI President Atif Ikram Sheikh. The agreement outlines a framework for cooperation that will enable both sides to work together in translating national economic targets into actionable initiatives, particularly in areas related to exports, industrial development, and investment promotion.
Under the Uraan Pakistan programme, the government seeks to strengthen collaboration with industry to drive sustainable economic growth through higher exports and improved competitiveness. The MoU emphasizes joint efforts to implement the government’s broader economic vision and to promote public-private partnerships as a core mechanism for development. By formalizing engagement with FPCCI, the government aims to ensure that the perspectives and practical insights of the business community are integrated into policy execution.
Addressing a joint press conference following the signing ceremony, FPCCI President Atif Ikram Sheikh reaffirmed the federation’s commitment to working closely with the government to achieve the objectives of Uraan Pakistan. He described the programme as critical to Pakistan’s economic future and stressed that its success would be central to positioning the country as a modern economic power. He highlighted key challenges faced by businesses, including high interest rates and elevated electricity tariffs, noting that a supportive and business-friendly environment was essential for industrial revival and sustained growth.
The FPCCI president also proposed district-level initiatives to promote local economic development, suggesting that region-specific strategies could unlock untapped potential across the country. He called for targeted export promotion across various product categories and emphasized that FPCCI, as the representative body of Pakistan’s business community, should be fully involved in policymaking processes to ensure practical and effective outcomes.
Speaking to the media, Federal Minister for Planning Ahsan Iqbal said that the Uraan Pakistan programme reflects the government’s commitment to sustainable development, increased exports, and economic revival. He stated that with the support of the business community, the government had managed to steer the country away from the risk of default, underscoring the importance of coordinated efforts during challenging economic conditions.
The minister noted that long-term and sustainable economic growth depended on the revival of industries and the strengthening of export capacity. He emphasized that partnerships with the private sector would play a decisive role in achieving macroeconomic stability, generating employment, and expanding Pakistan’s economic footprint.
The signing of the MoU signals a renewed focus on collaboration between the government and the private sector at a time when economic reforms and export competitiveness remain central to Pakistan’s development agenda. Through the Uraan Pakistan programme, both sides aim to align policy direction with industry needs, foster investment, and lay the groundwork for achieving ambitious long-term economic targets.
