Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Thursday hosted a delegation from Türkiye’s Agricultural Technologies Cluster (TUME), led by Board Chairman Abdulkadir Karagöz, in Islamabad to explore opportunities for strengthening bilateral cooperation in agriculture and livestock development. The meeting underscored Pakistan’s commitment to modernizing its agricultural sector through the adoption of advanced Turkish technological solutions and fostering a robust economic partnership between the two nations.
During the discussions, the prime minister highlighted Pakistan’s abundant agricultural resources and emphasized that integrating modern technology was crucial to fully realize the country’s potential in the sector. He reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to transforming its agricultural landscape, stating that cooperation with Türkiye could help enhance productivity, optimize resource use, and modernize farming practices across the country.
“Pakistan is keen to strengthen its exemplary brotherly ties with Türkiye through a robust economic partnership,” the prime minister noted, adding that both countries possessed significant potential to become key players in the global food value chain. He stressed the importance of a comprehensive strategy and mutual collaboration to leverage technology for higher agricultural yields, sustainable livestock management, and overall sectoral growth.
TUME Board Chairman Abdulkadir Karagöz briefed the premier on the advanced agricultural technologies employed by his organization to boost crop production, improve resource efficiency, and support sustainable farming. He expressed strong interest in expanding cooperation with Pakistan, highlighting that the longstanding ties between the two countries provided a “guiding light” for greater collaboration between business communities in both nations.
The delegation also discussed the application of digital and precision agriculture tools, mechanization, and innovative livestock management solutions to enhance production quality and reduce operational inefficiencies. Chairman Karagöz emphasized that technology-driven interventions could play a pivotal role in improving yields, reducing post-harvest losses, and creating value-added opportunities across the agricultural supply chain.
The meeting was attended by senior officials, including Türkiye’s Ambassador to Pakistan İrfan Neziroğlu, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mohammad Ishaq Dar, Federal Minister for Commerce Jam Kamal, Federal Minister for Economic Affairs Ahad Khan Cheema, and other high-ranking representatives from both countries. Participants stressed the importance of strategic collaboration, knowledge sharing, and joint initiatives to strengthen trade, investment, and innovation in the agricultural sector.
Experts noted that Pakistan’s agricultural productivity could be significantly enhanced through the adoption of precision agriculture, smart irrigation, and modern farm management systems, which could be facilitated by partnerships with experienced international players such as TUME. The collaboration aims to create a framework where technology and expertise from Türkiye can complement Pakistan’s natural resources and agricultural capacity, ultimately contributing to food security, rural employment, and economic growth.
The engagement reflects the broader objective of strengthening bilateral relations between Pakistan and Türkiye, promoting technology transfer, and developing a resilient agricultural ecosystem capable of meeting domestic demand and capturing export opportunities. Both sides committed to further dialogues and actionable steps to ensure that technological innovations are effectively integrated into Pakistan’s agricultural and livestock sectors.
