Punjab Revenue Authority achieves record Rs41 billion tax collection in February

The Punjab Revenue Authority (PRA) recorded an unprecedented surge in tax collection for February 2026, achieving more than Rs41 billion in revenue, a remarkable 75 percent increase compared with Rs23.6 billion collected during the same month last year. The figures, shared during a high-level meeting chaired by PRA Chairman Moazzam Iqbal Sipra, underscore the authority’s ongoing efforts to strengthen tax compliance and mobilize provincial resources.

The February results represent the highest monthly collection in the history of the PRA, which has been steadily expanding its taxpayer base and enhancing collection mechanisms since its establishment. Officials attending the meeting through a video link from across the province emphasized that improved coordination between regional offices, better monitoring systems, and streamlined administrative procedures have contributed significantly to the growth in revenue.

Chairman Moazzam Iqbal Sipra highlighted that the authority’s strategies to increase efficiency, including digital tracking of tax payments and enhanced taxpayer outreach, have played a critical role in achieving the record collection. He noted that the robust growth demonstrates the effectiveness of reforms aimed at broadening the tax base while ensuring compliance from both large enterprises and smaller businesses operating within Punjab.

Officials explained that the surge in revenue is attributable to a combination of factors, including increased registration of taxpayers, stricter enforcement measures, and a focus on timely and accurate reporting by businesses. The use of modern technology in tax administration has improved transparency and reduced the scope for underreporting, while proactive engagement with the business community has helped address compliance challenges.

The meeting also reviewed provincial targets for the upcoming months, with emphasis on sustaining growth momentum and identifying sectors with untapped revenue potential. The PRA leadership stressed the importance of continuous capacity building among officers and the deployment of analytical tools to track trends in tax collection and detect anomalies.

In addition to operational improvements, the PRA has expanded public awareness campaigns highlighting the benefits of compliance and the use of digital payment channels. These initiatives are aimed at making the tax process more accessible to individual taxpayers and businesses, ultimately supporting long-term revenue growth.

Chairman Sipra also acknowledged the collaborative efforts of officers and staff across Punjab, emphasizing that achieving record collections is a collective accomplishment that reflects both administrative efficiency and active participation from the taxpayer community. The meeting concluded with a directive to maintain vigilance in monitoring collections while continuing reforms that facilitate voluntary compliance.

The record February collection by the PRA not only strengthens the provincial exchequer but also contributes to broader economic stability by ensuring that government resources are available for development projects, public services, and infrastructure investments. The authority’s performance highlights the growing impact of efficient tax administration in provincial governance and underscores the critical role of transparency and technology in modern revenue mobilization.

Officials indicated that continued monitoring and strategic planning would be central to maintaining high collection levels and further enhancing the authority’s capacity to support Punjab’s fiscal objectives in the months ahead.
