Pakistan Records $3.63 Billion In Remittances During July 2026

4 Views by webdesk

Pakistan received $3.631 billion in overseas workers’ remittances during July 2026, according to data released by the State Bank of Pakistan, marking a 4.5 percent increase on a month-on-month basis and a 13 percent rise compared with the same month last year. The latest inflow comes after overseas Pakistanis sent a record $41.6 billion in remittances during July-June financial year 2025-26, representing a 9 percent increase from the $38.3 billion recorded during the previous fiscal year. Remittances remain an important source of foreign exchange for Pakistan, supporting the country’s external account while contributing to economic activity and household incomes, particularly for families that depend substantially on money sent by relatives working abroad. The continued growth in monthly inflows also reflects the sustained contribution of overseas Pakistanis to the country’s economy. The government continues to encourage remittance flows through incentives and formal channels, with the objective of maintaining steady inflows and strengthening their contribution to economic stability. Topline Securities has projected that remittances could reach $40.1 billion during financial year 2026-27, indicating expectations that overseas workers’ transfers will continue to remain a major component of Pakistan’s external financing position.

Saudi Arabia remained the largest source of workers’ remittances during July 2026, with overseas Pakistanis in the Kingdom sending $914 million during the month. The amount represented an 11 percent increase compared with the $824 million received from Saudi Arabia in July 2025, while the July figure was also 10 percent higher than the $830 million recorded in June 2026. The United Arab Emirates remained another major source of remittance inflows, with transfers reaching $737 million in July 2026. UAE-origin remittances increased by 11 percent compared with the $665 million received in July 2025, although the monthly figure declined by 7 percent from the $792 million recorded in June. The figures demonstrate the continued importance of Gulf countries to Pakistan’s remittance flows, with Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates together accounting for a substantial share of the monthly inflows. The strong annual growth recorded from both countries contributed significantly to the overall increase in remittances during July and helped maintain the upward trend recorded in Pakistan’s overseas workers’ transfers.

The United Kingdom was another significant contributor to Pakistan’s remittance inflows during July, with overseas Pakistanis sending $555 million from the country. The amount was 23 percent higher than the $450 million recorded in July 2025, representing one of the stronger year-on-year increases among the major remittance corridors. Remittances from the United States also remained substantial, reaching $317 million during July 2026. The US figure represented a 7 percent increase compared with the $296 million sent by overseas Pakistanis in June. Remittances from European Union countries amounted to $462 million during July, increasing by 11 percent from the $415 million received in June. The performance of these major corridors highlights the broad geographical base of Pakistan’s overseas workforce and the continued flow of funds from Pakistanis living and working across the Gulf, North America, Europe and other international markets. The year-on-year and month-on-month movements across individual countries varied, but the combined inflows contributed to the overall $3.631 billion received by Pakistan during the first month of the new financial year.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif expressed satisfaction over the $3.6 billion in remittances sent by overseas Pakistanis during July 2026 and praised their continued contribution to the national economy. He described the consistent contribution of overseas Pakistanis to Pakistan’s economic stability and growth as commendable, while noting their importance as part of the country’s economic mainstream. Remittances provide a direct source of foreign currency for Pakistan and play a role in supporting the external account, while also supplementing the disposable incomes of households receiving funds from family members abroad. The government has continued to promote the use of formal remittance channels and incentives aimed at encouraging overseas Pakistanis to send funds through regulated financial systems. Sustained growth in remittances is therefore important not only for recipient households but also for Pakistan’s broader external and economic position. The July inflow provides an early indication of continued strength in remittance transfers at the beginning of financial year 2026-27, following the strong performance recorded during the previous financial year.

The $3.631 billion received in July represents a strong start to financial year 2026-27 following the $41.6 billion recorded during the full July-June period of financial year 2025-26. The 4.5 percent monthly increase and 13 percent annual increase reported for July indicate that remittance inflows remained on an upward trajectory despite differing trends across individual source countries. Saudi Arabia delivered the largest monthly contribution at $914 million, followed by the United Arab Emirates at $737 million, the United Kingdom at $555 million, European Union countries at $462 million and the United States at $317 million. With overseas Pakistanis continuing to provide substantial financial support through formal remittance channels, the latest figures are expected to remain closely watched as the government seeks to maintain foreign exchange inflows and support external account stability. Topline Securities’ forecast of $40.1 billion for financial year 2026-27 also points to expectations of continued substantial remittance activity, although the eventual outcome will depend on the flow of transfers from major overseas employment markets throughout the year.
