PKR Holds Firm Against US Dollar For 234th Consecutive Day

The Pakistani rupee (PKR) continued its steady performance against the US dollar (USD) on Monday, extending its positive streak to 234 consecutive days. The local currency gained one paisa against the dollar during the trading session, closing at Rs277.40. The rupee has consistently recorded gains against the US dollar since December 25, 2025, maintaining a prolonged period of stability in the foreign exchange market.

According to the reported exchange rates, the US dollar closed at Rs277.4018 on September 7, compared with Rs277.4131 on September 4. This represents an improvement of approximately 0.0113 rupees. The latest movement keeps the Pakistani currency close to the Rs277 level against the dollar, with only limited day to day changes during the recent trading sessions.

The rupee’s performance against the US dollar comes despite continued international and regional economic uncertainty. The reported market assessment points to pressure from the ongoing conflict involving Iran, which has affected broader market conditions and international currencies. However, the Pakistani currency has continued to hold its position against the dollar, extending the streak that began in late December 2025.

The movement was mixed against other major currencies. The Pakistani rupee lost 34 paisas against the euro, which closed at Rs322.7292 on September 7 compared with Rs322.3817 on September 4. The rupee also weakened against the British pound, losing 13 paisas as the pound moved to Rs375.6714 from Rs375.5341. Against the Australian dollar, the rupee declined by 56 paisas, with the currency moving from Rs199.7652 to Rs200.3257.

The Pakistani currency, however, strengthened against the Canadian dollar during the same period. The Canadian dollar moved from Rs200.9876 on September 4 to Rs200.6886 on September 7, representing a gain of 29 paisas for the Pakistani rupee. The rupee remained stable against the UAE dirham, with the exchange rate unchanged at Rs75.5287 during the two reported sessions.

The Saudi Riyal also remained relatively stable against the Pakistani rupee. The Saudi currency moved from Rs73.8783 on September 4 to Rs73.8753 on September 7, reflecting a three paisa improvement for the Pakistani currency. Meanwhile, the Malaysian ringgit and Chinese yuan recorded only minor movements over the same period, with the rupee showing limited changes against both currencies.

The latest exchange rate data shows that the rupee’s movement remains particularly stable against the US dollar compared with several other major currencies. The dollar was quoted at Rs277.4514 on September 2, Rs277.4235 on September 3, Rs277.4131 on September 4 and Rs277.4018 on September 7. This gradual movement lower demonstrates the continued strength of the rupee against the dollar over the reported trading sessions.

The continued performance of the Pakistani rupee against the US dollar extends a trend that has remained in place since December 25, 2025. With the currency recording its 234th consecutive day of gains, the latest closing provides another indication of the rupee’s sustained stability in the foreign exchange market. At the same time, movements against the euro, pound, Australian dollar and Canadian dollar show that the rupee’s performance has varied across major international currencies.
