Pakistan Petroleum Limited has appointed independent director Shahid Khan as chairman of its Board of Directors for a three-year term, following approval by the company’s board at a meeting held on September 16, 2026. The appointment was disclosed by the company through a notice submitted to the Pakistan Stock Exchange.
Pakistan Petroleum Limited said the appointment of Shahid Khan as chairman was made in compliance with Section 192 of the Companies Act, 2017. The decision places an independent director in charge of the company’s board for the next three years as Pakistan Petroleum Limited continues its operations across the country’s oil and gas sector.
The appointment comes at a significant stage for Pakistan Petroleum Limited, which has been operating in Pakistan’s energy industry since the mid-1950s. The company recently completed 75 years of operations and remains one of the country’s major explorers and producers of hydrocarbons and natural gas. Its activities cover the exploration, development and production of domestic energy resources.
Pakistan Petroleum Limited contributes nearly 20% of Pakistan’s total natural gas supplies. Alongside natural gas, the company produces crude oil, natural gas liquids and liquefied petroleum gas, giving it a broad presence across the domestic hydrocarbons sector. Its production activities form part of the wider energy supply chain serving consumers and major institutions across the country.
The company currently operates 16 producing fields. These include Sui, Adhi, Kandhkot, Chachar, Mazarani, Adam, Adam West, Shahdadpur, Shahdadpur West, Shahdadpur East, Zafir, Fazal, Kabir, Hadaf and Dhok Sultan. In addition to its directly operated fields, Pakistan Petroleum Limited also holds working interests in 24 producing assets operated by partner companies.
Production from fields operated by Pakistan Petroleum Limited and its partner-operated assets is estimated at around one billion cubic feet equivalent of gas per day. On a gas-equivalent basis, this represents nearly 20% of Pakistan’s total production, underlining the company’s contribution to the country’s domestic energy supply.
Pakistan Petroleum Limited supplies its production to several major customers in the country. These include Sui Southern Gas Company Limited, Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited and the Water and Power Development Authority. The company’s production is therefore connected to key parts of Pakistan’s gas distribution and power infrastructure.
The appointment of Shahid Khan follows the board meeting held on September 16, where directors approved his selection for the chairman position. As an independent director, his appointment is also aligned with the corporate governance requirements referenced by the company under the Companies Act, 2017.
With a three-year term now approved, Shahid Khan will lead the Board of Directors as Pakistan Petroleum Limited manages its portfolio of producing fields and interests in partner-operated assets. The company’s scale of operations means that its board continues to oversee activities linked to natural gas, crude oil, natural gas liquids and liquefied petroleum gas production.
The development has been formally communicated to the Pakistan Stock Exchange, making the appointment part of the company’s latest corporate disclosures. Further details about any changes to the company’s operational strategy or board priorities were not included in the announcement concerning Shahid Khan’s appointment.
