JS Bank Wins ESG Award For Community Health Outreach Across Pakistan

JS Bank has received the ESG Award for its Community Health Outreach Programme at the ESG Business Awards, recognising the bank’s efforts to expand access to healthcare services for underserved communities across Pakistan. The programme brings together several healthcare initiatives focused on primary and maternal care, specialised treatment and community-level health awareness, with the bank supporting projects that provide medical services to communities with limited access to healthcare facilities.

The Community Health Outreach Programme covers three main areas, including primary and maternal healthcare in remote regions, specialised free treatment for chronic and reproductive health conditions, and grassroots health awareness. Through these initiatives, JS Bank has supported healthcare services across different communities while working with healthcare organisations and welfare partners. The programme is structured around providing direct medical assistance as well as improving awareness of health conditions that can require early diagnosis and continued treatment.

One of the programme’s key initiatives is the Jahangir Siddiqui Hospital in Sehwan, which is operated in collaboration with the Indus Hospital and Health Network. During 2025, the hospital provided free medicines and medical services to more than 34,000 patients. The facility also conducted more than 50 deliveries and organised over 3,000 community engagement sessions during the year. JS Bank has additionally supported the hospital’s phased rehabilitation following the floods of 2022, contributing to the restoration and continuation of healthcare services in the area.

The programme also includes the Uro Gynae Clinic, which provided free treatment to more than 900 patients suffering from urological and gynaecological conditions in 2025. Alongside this initiative, JS Bank has continued its support for the Sindh Institute of Urology and Transplantation (SIUT), helping extend access to specialised medical treatment. The support covers areas including nephrology, cancer treatment and organ transplantation, services that can involve significant costs and require specialised medical facilities and expertise.

Health awareness in remote communities forms another part of the programme. Through its partnership with PinkDetect, JS Bank supported breast cancer awareness activities in Tharparkar during 2025. The initiative reached 188 women across four villages, bringing information and awareness activities to communities located away from major healthcare centres. The programme also supports treatment for children with clubfoot through the NJ Welfare Trust, under which 294 children received free corrective surgery along with six months of post-operative care.

Basir Shamsie, President and Chief Executive Officer of JS Bank, said the bank views access to quality healthcare in underserved communities as part of its social responsibility. He said the bank’s programmes are focused on addressing challenges at the grassroots level and delivering sustained support through initiatives that have a direct impact on communities. His comments highlighted the bank’s approach of combining financial support with partnerships and programmes focused on essential services.

The ESG Award recognises the bank’s continued investment in community-focused healthcare initiatives and the reach of its programme across different areas of Pakistan. The initiatives supported through the programme cover hospital-based treatment, specialist medical care, preventive health awareness, maternal healthcare and post-operative support. By working with organisations including the Indus Hospital and Health Network, SIUT, PinkDetect and NJ Welfare Trust, the programme extends its reach through established healthcare and welfare networks.

The recognition also places the bank’s healthcare activities within the wider environmental, social and governance framework followed by companies and financial institutions. For JS Bank, the Community Health Outreach Programme represents the social component of its broader ESG activities, with an emphasis on access to essential healthcare and support for communities that face barriers to specialised medical services. The programme’s reported patient numbers and community engagement activities provide measurable indicators of the services delivered during 2025.
