SECP Talk Series to Explore Inclusive Insurance and Global Insights

The Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan (SECP) is set to hold the next session of its SECP Talk Series, focusing on inclusive insurance and approaches to making insurance products more accessible, relevant and sustainable for underserved communities. The session will bring international perspectives to discussions around the development of insurance markets and the challenges faced by people who remain underserved by conventional insurance services.

The upcoming session will feature Michael J. McCord, Managing Director of the MicroInsurance Centre at Milliman. McCord will contribute insights from the international microinsurance sector, with the discussion centred on practical approaches and emerging ideas that can support broader access to insurance and help develop markets that address the needs of communities that have historically had limited access to insurance products.

Inclusive insurance has become an important area of discussion as insurance providers, regulators and other financial-sector stakeholders examine ways to extend coverage to populations that may face barriers to accessing traditional insurance. These barriers can include affordability, product design, distribution channels and limited awareness, making the development of appropriate insurance solutions an important consideration for broader financial inclusion.

The SECP Talk Series session is intended to explore how insurance products and markets can become more responsive to underserved communities while maintaining long-term sustainability. The discussion will look at practical approaches that can be applied to insurance market development, alongside international experiences that may provide useful perspectives for stakeholders working in the sector.

McCord’s participation will bring the perspective of the MicroInsurance Centre at Milliman to the session. The centre focuses on microinsurance and inclusive insurance-related work, while Milliman operates as a global professional services firm serving financial and other industries. His participation is expected to contribute international experience to the discussion on developing insurance markets that can reach a wider range of customers.

The session will also examine emerging ideas and international perspectives on building inclusive insurance markets. Such discussions can help stakeholders consider how product structures, delivery mechanisms and market practices can be adapted to improve access while addressing the financial and operational requirements needed for sustainable insurance services.

The SECP has invited interested participants to register for the session through the designated registration contact. Participants can register by contacting Mateen Abbasi at mateen.abbasi@secp.gov.pk. The session forms part of the regulator’s ongoing Talk Series, which provides a platform for discussions on developments and issues relevant to Pakistan’s financial and capital markets.

Through the inclusive insurance session, the SECP is bringing attention to the role of insurance in expanding financial protection among underserved communities. The discussion is expected to connect local market considerations with international experience and practical approaches to improving accessibility, relevance and sustainability within insurance markets.
