OGDCL Starts Bitrism East-1 Production With 7 Million Cubic Feet of Gas Daily

Oil and Gas Development Company Limited (OGDCL) has commenced gas and condensate production from its Bitrism East-1 exploratory well in Khairpur district, Sindh, with initial output reaching 7 million standard cubic feet of gas and 200 barrels of condensate per day. The development brings the previously announced discovery into production and adds another source of domestic hydrocarbon supplies. According to the company, production has started from the Basal Sands of the Lower Goru Formation, following the gas-condensate discovery announced on October 1, 2025.

In a notice submitted to the Pakistan Stock Exchange on Thursday, OGDCL confirmed that the well had entered the production phase. The company said output was expected to increase progressively as production flows stabilised. The initial daily volumes mark the start of commercial utilisation of the discovery, while the expected gradual increase will depend on how production conditions develop. Bringing the well into operation is part of OGDCL’s efforts to move discoveries into production and contribute additional gas and condensate to Pakistan’s energy supply.

To connect the well with existing processing infrastructure, OGDCL installed an approximately 28-kilometre-long flowline with an eight-inch diameter. The company said the pipeline was developed using its own resources and connects Bitrism East-1 to the Sinjhoro processing plant. This connection enables output from the well to be transported for processing and onward supply. The use of a dedicated flowline establishes the infrastructure needed to bring the newly developed resource into the existing gas network rather than leaving the discovery at the exploration stage.

The processed gas from Bitrism East-1 is now being supplied to the network of Sui Southern Gas Company Limited (SSGCL). The addition is expected to contribute to domestic gas availability, although the company has not specified the number of consumers or industries that will receive supplies from this particular well. Gas production from local fields forms part of Pakistan’s wider effort to meet energy requirements through domestic resources. The contribution of any individual discovery depends on its production levels, operating conditions and the infrastructure available to move the gas to consumers.

OGDCL operates the Bitrism Exploration Licence with a 77.5% working interest, while its joint venture partner, Government Holdings (Private) Limited (GHPL), holds the remaining 22.5%. The ownership arrangement establishes the partners’ respective interests in the exploration licence. OGDCL is responsible for operating the licence, and the start of production marks a new stage in the development of the Bitrism East-1 discovery. The company has not provided a revised estimate of the field’s total recoverable reserves or a specific timeline for the expected increase in production.

The production of condensate alongside natural gas adds another hydrocarbon stream from the well. Initial condensate output has been reported at 200 barrels per day, in addition to the 7 million standard cubic feet of gas. Condensate is a liquid hydrocarbon recovered from gas production and can be processed or used as a petroleum product feedstock. Actual output may vary as production stabilises, and OGDCL has indicated that the well’s flow is expected to improve progressively.

The commencement of production is a further step in OGDCL’s programme to develop domestic discoveries and bring additional resources into operation. The company said the project reflects its efforts to increase Pakistan’s local hydrocarbon supplies. With the well connected to the Sinjhoro processing plant through a 28-kilometre flowline and processed gas entering the SSGCL network, Bitrism East-1 has moved from discovery to active production. Its contribution to national energy supplies will depend on the sustainability of production and any subsequent increase in output as operations stabilise.
