Finance Minister Praises Progress on Pakistan’s REMIT Program

Federal Minister for Finance and Revenue, Muhammad Aurangzeb, chaired the third meeting of the Revenue Mobilisation, Investment, and Trade (REMIT) Program Steering Committee on January 2, 2025. The session reviewed the implementation status of decisions made in previous meetings, focusing on key areas such as revenue mobilization, trade, investment climate, and macroeconomic governance.

Aurangzeb lauded the overall progress of the REMIT Program, emphasizing the need for a proactive and well-coordinated approach among implementing partners. He highlighted the importance of leveraging management and monitoring tools to ensure that the program achieves its objectives effectively. Expressing his personal commitment to the initiative, the Minister pledged to oversee its progress closely to ensure it remains on track.

During the meeting, discussions revolved around strengthening macroeconomic stability and fostering conditions for sustainable and inclusive growth. Key topics included enhancing revenue mobilization, improving the investment climate, advancing trade, and addressing macroeconomic challenges. Prominent attendees included British High Commissioner to Pakistan Jane Marriott and senior representatives from multiple government ministries, such as the Ministry of Planning, Ministry of Finance, Ministry of Commerce, and Ministry of Industries and Production. Other key participants included the Board of Investment, the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR), and REMIT’s implementing partners, including the World Bank, GCSI, and ASI.

The REMIT Program, a collaborative effort supported by international and domestic stakeholders, aims to strengthen Pakistan’s economic framework by focusing on reforms that enhance revenue generation, attract investment, and streamline trade processes.
