PESHAWAR: In a bid to enhance local revenue and improve the vehicle registration process, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government is set to launch a new motor vehicle registration campaign, according to the KP Minister for Excise & Taxation, Mian Khaleeq-ur-Rehman. The initiative aims to encourage vehicle owners to register their vehicles within the province rather than in other regions where they often face higher registration costs and complicated procedures.
During a recent monthly revenue review meeting of the Excise & Taxation Department, Minister Khaleeq-ur-Rehman addressed the Excise & Taxation Officers (ETOs) and directed them to begin a comprehensive public awareness campaign to highlight the benefits of local vehicle registration. He emphasized that registering vehicles in KP would not only save money for the vehicle owners but also streamline the process, offering a more convenient option compared to neighboring provinces.
The meeting provided an update on the monthly revenue collection performance across various districts of the province. The Minister highlighted the need for greater efforts to raise awareness among vehicle showroom owners to actively encourage their customers to register their vehicles locally. By doing so, the government aims to prevent vehicle owners from wasting time and money in other provinces and ensure that all unregistered vehicles are duly registered in KP.
In line with the new initiative, the provincial government plans to take strict action against unregistered vehicles that are currently operating on the roads. The Minister instructed that these vehicles should be seized, and their owners should be issued formal instructions to complete the registration process in KP without delay. This move is expected to not only boost local vehicle registration but also contribute to the overall improvement of provincial revenue collection.
Minister Khaleeq-ur-Rehman expressed satisfaction with the overall performance of the Excise & Taxation Department but urged those ETO districts that had not yet met their revenue targets to take immediate steps to rectify this and collect additional revenue beyond the set goals. He emphasized that there was potential for greater revenue collection in every district, and it was crucial to tap into this opportunity.
To address challenges in staff shortages at some Excise & Taxation offices, the Minister urged the Secretary of Excise to deploy additional personnel from other districts to ensure smooth operations and prevent delays in the registration process. Furthermore, the Minister called for an increase in the revenue collection targets for the upcoming fiscal period, highlighting the importance of efficient tax collection in supporting public welfare and development.
The campaign is expected to play a significant role in strengthening the province’s revenue base, ensuring that the collected taxes are reinvested in public services, infrastructure, and development projects that directly benefit the citizens of KP. By simplifying the registration process and encouraging local registrations, the KP government aims to create a more transparent and efficient system that will improve the overall experience for vehicle owners while generating much-needed revenue for the province.
As the campaign rolls out, the KP government is optimistic that these measures will not only encourage compliance with registration laws but also contribute to the province’s economic growth and development. With an organized effort to boost local vehicle registrations, KP is set to benefit both financially and socially, paving the way for a more robust and self-sustaining provincial economy.
