Bank Alfalah and Shell Pakistan Roll Out Raast P2M QR Payments Across Fuel Stations

Bank Alfalah has partnered with Shell Pakistan, operated by Wafi Energy, to introduce Raast Person-to-Merchant (P2M) QR payments at Shell fuel stations across the country. The rollout will begin with 42 company-owned and company-operated stations as part of the first implementation phase, bringing a new level of digital payment ease to motorists and retail consumers.

The initiative allows customers to pay for fuel and convenience store products by scanning a Raast-enabled QR code using any banking application supporting Raast P2M. This feature eliminates reliance on cash, speeding up transaction times while offering convenience, transparency, and security. The collaboration aligns with Pakistan’s accelerating shift toward digital payments and reinforces ongoing national efforts to modernize financial systems under the State Bank of Pakistan’s Raast program.

The introduction of QR-powered fuel payments marks a significant development in the country’s digital finance ecosystem. Pakistan’s retail payments landscape has seen rapid adoption of instant payment methods, driven by consumer appetite for seamless, contactless, and secure transactions. By expanding QR payment access to fuel stations, one of the most frequent transactional touchpoints for consumers, Bank Alfalah and Shell Pakistan are contributing to deeper digital penetration in daily commerce.

Bank Alfalah continues to play a central role in shaping Pakistan’s digital transaction infrastructure. The bank has consistently worked on strengthening interoperability and encouraging adoption of digital channels across merchant networks, retail environments, and consumer platforms. This latest integration positions the institution as one of the leading industry enablers supporting the country’s digital payment ambitions.

Shell Pakistan’s participation highlights the growing commitment from multinational energy and retail operators to modernize payment options for customers. Fuel stations are increasingly becoming multi-service convenience hubs, and digital payments serve as a core component of this evolution. With the phased rollout strategy in place, wider expansion of Raast P2M QR payments across additional Shell locations is expected as adoption grows and demand strengthens.

Raast, the State Bank’s instant payment system, has played a transformative role in expanding financial accessibility and driving digital transactions across Pakistan. With its P2M capability gaining traction, merchants in sectors including retail, transport, hospitality, and utilities are beginning to accept QR-based digital payments. This enhancement pushes the country toward reduced cash dependence and broader financial technology adoption.

Industry stakeholders expect that the availability of digital payment infrastructure across essential service networks will contribute to behavioral shifts in consumer spending habits. Increased use of QR payments at fuel stations not only simplifies daily transactions but also builds familiarity with cashless systems and opens pathways for financial inclusion.

The collaboration between Bank Alfalah and Shell Pakistan demonstrates continued momentum in advancing Pakistan’s digital payment landscape. As the first phase deploys QR technology across select stations, both organizations are positioned to scale adoption and influence wider acceptance across the fuel and retail service industry.
