Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb has called for accelerated integration of data systems within the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) as part of the government’s ongoing push to modernize tax administration and expand revenue collection. During a detailed review of FBR’s digitization initiatives, the minister was briefed on recent efforts to build a comprehensive, real-time system capable of identifying non-filers and individuals or entities attempting to evade taxes.
The meeting, conducted by the Project Steering Committee at FBR Headquarters in Islamabad, was attended by Chairman FBR Rashid Mahmood Langrial, senior board officials, and key project personnel. During the session, officials highlighted that several major government departments and agencies have begun sharing data to support FBR’s automation drive. This collaborative approach aims to create a unified platform where tax-related information can be accessed instantly, enabling authorities to monitor compliance more effectively.
Chairman Langrial stressed that the Revenue Division is committed to leveraging automation, integrated systems, and advanced software solutions to enhance revenue collection. He encouraged committee members to provide actionable recommendations that could accelerate the digital transformation of FBR’s operations. “Our objective is to ensure that technology drives transparency, efficiency, and fairness in tax administration,” Langrial noted.
Participants agreed that a robust and secure data-sharing framework is critical to broadening the tax net. By enabling seamless access to information from major stakeholders, the FBR can detect irregularities and gaps in tax filings more efficiently. The committee emphasized that the deployment of modern technology will not only improve compliance but also support a more formalized and documented economy, contributing to Pakistan’s long-term economic stability.
The Finance Minister was also briefed on ongoing efforts to modernize FBR’s internal systems, including upgrades to software platforms and timelines for deploying automation solutions across tax administration processes. Officials highlighted the potential of real-time data analytics to enhance decision-making, streamline audit processes, and improve taxpayer services.
As Pakistan continues to digitize its tax infrastructure, these initiatives are expected to transform FBR into a more responsive and technologically capable institution. Automation and integrated data systems are seen as key enablers for detecting tax evasion, minimizing revenue leakages, and increasing overall efficiency in the tax collection process.
Minister Aurangzeb underscored the strategic importance of completing the integration process promptly. He noted that a modern, data-driven FBR would not only improve compliance but also provide policymakers with better insights to support economic planning and fiscal stability. The minister reiterated the government’s commitment to adopting advanced technological solutions that enhance transparency and ensure a fair and effective taxation system.
