CECOS University Peshawar, in collaboration with Zindigi powered by JS Bank, is set to become Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s first fully cashless and financially inclusive university, marking a major milestone in Pakistan’s evolving digital education and fintech landscape. The initiative aims to transform the campus into a fully digital financial ecosystem while ensuring mandatory access to formal banking for every student.
Under the partnership, all enrolled students at CECOS University will be provided with fully functional bank accounts along with personalized Zindigi debit cards. This move ensures that students are financially onboarded into the formal banking system from the very beginning of their academic journey, promoting long-term financial inclusion and digital literacy.
As part of the transition, the university campus will be equipped with modern digital payment infrastructure, including point-of-sale (POS) terminals and QR-code-based payment solutions. These facilities will enable seamless cashless transactions across campus locations such as cafeterias, bookstores, and other student service points. Over time, the use of physical cash will be gradually phased out, creating a fully digitized, secure, and efficient payment environment.
The initiative represents a significant step toward redefining student life in Pakistan by embedding digital financial behavior at an early stage. By ensuring universal access to banking and digital payments, the project aims to enhance convenience, transparency, and financial awareness among students, while aligning with national goals of increasing digital adoption and reducing cash dependency.
Speaking at the ceremony, Chief Officer Zindigi, Mr. Noman Azhar, emphasized the long-term impact of the initiative. He stated that universities play a critical role in shaping lifelong financial behavior and that a fully cashless campus goes beyond digitizing transactions. According to him, the initiative is about enabling students to engage confidently with money, opportunities, and the formal economy from day one.
Vice Chancellor of CECOS University, Dr. Muhammad Mohsin Khan, described the development as a reflection of the university’s commitment to building a modern, future-ready campus aligned with global standards. He highlighted that becoming the first university in KPK to adopt a fully cashless model through a meaningful fintech partnership marks a bold and transformative step for higher education in the province.
The launch ceremony was attended by senior leadership from Zindigi, including Mr. Noman Azhar and Mr. Ibtisam Babar, Head of Zindigi Prize. Distinguished representatives from CECOS University were also present, including Wing Commander Khurshid Qasim Marwat, Registrar, and Ms. Zahra Azam, CDC Manager.
This collaboration positions CECOS University and Zindigi at the forefront of digital transformation in education. By creating a fully digital, inclusive, and technologically empowered campus ecosystem, the initiative sets a new benchmark for universities across Pakistan and signals a broader shift toward cashless, fintech-enabled student environments nationwide.
