The Federal Board of Revenue has announced a temporary suspension of its online tax return filing portal IRIS and several other digital tax services as part of scheduled system maintenance. The interruption is expected to affect taxpayers, businesses, tax practitioners and other stakeholders using the revenue authority’s online platforms for filing returns, making payments, completing registrations and carrying out other tax related transactions.
In a public notice issued on Friday, the Federal Board of Revenue said the maintenance activity will begin at 12:30 a.m. on Saturday, August 8, 2026, and continue until 5:00 a.m. on Monday, August 10, 2026. During this period, users will not be able to access the affected digital services and transactions connected with these platforms will remain unavailable.
The IRIS tax return filing portal is among the key services affected by the planned maintenance. IRIS serves as the Federal Board of Revenue’s primary digital platform for a range of tax related activities, including income tax return filing, sales tax registration and tax payments. The platform is widely used by individual taxpayers, companies, tax consultants and other stakeholders to interact with the tax authority through online channels.
Alongside IRIS, the Federal Board of Revenue said its Digital Invoicing service will also remain unavailable during the maintenance period. The Payment System, which facilitates online tax related payments, will be temporarily suspended as well. The Synchronized Withholding Administration and Payment System, commonly referred to as SWAPS, will also be inaccessible throughout the scheduled maintenance window.
The POS Registration service is another platform that will be affected. As a result, taxpayers and businesses will not be able to carry out transactions linked to the listed digital services while the maintenance activity is underway. The suspension covers tax return filing, tax payments, registrations and other online activities associated with the affected systems.
The Federal Board of Revenue has advised taxpayers, businesses and tax practitioners to complete any time sensitive tax activities before the maintenance begins. Users who need to file income tax returns, make tax payments, complete registrations or conduct other online transactions have been encouraged to carry out those activities in advance to avoid disruption.
The advisory is particularly relevant for taxpayers with pending filings or payments that require access to the Federal Board of Revenue’s online infrastructure. By completing such activities before the scheduled outage, users can reduce the possibility of delays caused by the temporary unavailability of the platforms.
According to the revenue authority, the affected services are expected to become operational immediately after the successful completion of the maintenance work. The Federal Board of Revenue expressed regret for the temporary disruption and thanked taxpayers and other stakeholders for their patience and cooperation during the maintenance period.
The planned downtime comes as the Federal Board of Revenue continues to rely increasingly on digital infrastructure for tax administration and taxpayer services. The IRIS platform has become a central component of Pakistan’s tax system, providing an online channel for taxpayers and businesses to interact with the authority without relying entirely on physical processes.
The digital services covered by the maintenance also support several operational areas of tax administration. Online filing, payments, registration, invoicing, withholding administration and point of sale registration are increasingly connected to the wider digital framework used by the Federal Board of Revenue.
The authority said the scheduled maintenance is intended to support the continued reliability, performance and security of its digital tax infrastructure. Temporary service interruptions of this nature allow the relevant systems to undergo planned technical work while maintaining the broader functioning of the digital tax environment.
Taxpayers will therefore need to account for the announced maintenance window when planning online tax related activities. Unless the maintenance period is extended, the affected services are expected to resume from 5:00 a.m. on Monday, August 10, 2026, following completion of the scheduled work.
