In a renewed effort to combat tax evasion and promote transparency in the retail sector, the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has relaunched its Point of Sale (POS) Prize Scheme. This digital initiative is designed to encourage consumers to demand legitimate, system-integrated receipts from FBR-registered retailers, thereby helping to expose fake invoices and boost compliance.
The scheme is part of the FBR’s broader digital transformation strategy aimed at fostering a culture of accountability and ensuring that sales are properly recorded in the national tax system. By offering cash rewards to everyday consumers, the FBR hopes to not only increase awareness about tax compliance but also encourage more businesses to integrate with its POS system.
Consumers who shop at FBR-registered businesses that are connected to the authority’s real-time digital POS system are eligible to participate. Upon making a purchase, they can verify their receipts using the FBR’s Tax Asaan mobile app or the official FBR website. If the receipt is genuine and issued by a compliant retailer, it is logged into the FBR’s system, and the consumer is automatically entered into a monthly lucky draw.
The cash prizes offered through this program range from Rs. 10,000 to Rs. 20,000. Every month, a lucky draw is held in which winners are randomly selected from among those who verified their receipts during the previous month. This system transforms everyday shoppers into key players in the fight against tax fraud by incentivizing them to engage with and monitor the legitimacy of their purchase documentation.
To participate, consumers simply need to ensure that they shop at a business that is officially registered with the FBR and uses the integrated POS system. A valid FBR receipt includes a unique invoice number and a QR code, which can be scanned or entered manually into the verification tools provided by the FBR. Once verified, no further action is needed—participants are automatically included in the monthly prize draw, with the potential to win significant cash rewards.
This initiative not only empowers consumers but also adds pressure on retailers to comply with national tax regulations. Businesses that do not provide FBR-integrated receipts risk losing customers who now have a financial reason to prefer compliant stores. As a result, the program acts as a catalyst for expanding the formal economy and improving tax collection.
The POS Prize Scheme is a significant step in the FBR’s ongoing digital modernization efforts. By utilizing mobile applications and cloud-connected systems, the authority is making it easier for both consumers and businesses to play a role in Pakistan’s evolving tax infrastructure. It reflects a global trend where tax agencies are leveraging technology and public participation to drive compliance and transparency.
As the scheme continues to roll out, it is expected that both awareness and participation will grow, ultimately contributing to a stronger, more transparent economic framework in Pakistan. The FBR’s approach demonstrates how digital tools, when combined with smart incentives, can make a real impact on public behavior and national revenue collection.
