Senior Vice President of Faisalabad Chamber of Commerce & Industry (FCCI), Naveed Akram Sheikh, emphasized the importance of integrating women into Pakistan’s national economy, noting that the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP), other national organizations, and FCCI are actively working toward mainstreaming female participation in business and commerce.
Speaking at a special function organized by SBP Faisalabad to mark “Women Entrepreneurship Day,” Sheikh commended SBP’s efforts to support female entrepreneurs through subsidized loans and other initiatives. He pointed out that women constitute 50 percent of Pakistan’s population but remain largely underrepresented in the economic sector due to societal taboos and cultural barriers.
“Women are 50% of our total population but due to societal taboos, they have been isolated from the economic sector,” he said. He added that SBP has implemented innovative strategies to unlock women’s potential and enable them to contribute meaningfully to the growth of the national economy.
Sheikh also highlighted FCCI’s role as a representative trade body of the business community. He said the chamber would actively work to sensitize women and raise awareness about entrepreneurship opportunities by organizing targeted awareness sessions, workshops, and training programs.
The initiative aligns with broader national efforts to enhance women’s participation in the economy and promote inclusive growth. By facilitating access to finance, providing mentorship, and creating awareness, SBP and FCCI aim to empower women entrepreneurs to scale their businesses and contribute to Pakistan’s economic development.
Analysts note that increasing female participation in the business ecosystem could significantly boost productivity, innovation, and overall economic output. Programs that combine financial support with awareness and training are considered essential in overcoming societal barriers and encouraging women-led enterprises.
Overall, the function highlighted the growing recognition of women as key drivers of economic growth in Pakistan. Efforts by SBP, FCCI, and other stakeholders aim to bridge the gender gap in entrepreneurship, ensuring that women can leverage their talents and resources for both personal and national economic benefit.
