Finance Minister Urges Swift Implementation of New Energy Vehicle Policy 2025-30

Federal Minister for Finance and Revenue Senator Muhammad Aurangzeb has stressed the importance of timely development and implementation of the New Energy Vehicle (NEV) Policy 2025-30. Speaking at a meeting held at the Finance Division today, the minister highlighted the need for coordinated efforts to align the policy’s objectives with Pakistan’s economic and environmental priorities.

The NEV Policy 2025-30 aims to address critical challenges in adopting and producing electric vehicles (EVs) in Pakistan, setting ambitious targets to transition the transport sector to clean energy. The finance minister emphasized that achieving these objectives requires a collaborative approach across various government departments and stakeholders.

The meeting, attended by prominent officials including Federal Minister for Industries and Production Rana Tanveer Hussain, the Governor of the State Bank of Pakistan, and the Secretary of Finance, focused on overcoming barriers to EV adoption and production. Other participants included the Secretary of Commerce, Secretary of Climate Change, Member of Customs Policy, Additional Secretary for Trade Policy, and senior officials from relevant ministries and divisions.

During the meeting, the Secretary of Industries and Production delivered a detailed presentation on the state of Pakistan’s EV industry. The presentation outlined the key policy interventions needed to streamline the adoption of NEVs while addressing challenges in infrastructure, supply chains, and private sector engagement.

Discussions delved into crucial issues such as improving manufacturing processes, enhancing infrastructure to support EV usage, and implementing targeted policy corrections to facilitate production. The role of private sector investment was also emphasized as a driving force to accelerate progress in the EV industry.

The finance minister reiterated the government’s commitment to fostering a cleaner and more sustainable future for Pakistan. He called for expedited measures to remove bottlenecks in the EV production process and ensure the seamless integration of NEVs into the market.

The NEV Policy 2025-30 is expected to play a pivotal role in reducing Pakistan’s carbon footprint while promoting economic growth through innovation and sustainable practices. The meeting concluded with a shared resolve among participants to fast-track efforts for the successful implementation of the policy, ensuring that Pakistan remains on track to meet its environmental and economic goals.

With the policy laying the foundation for cleaner transportation, Pakistan’s transition to electric vehicles is poised to drive both environmental sustainability and economic progress in the coming years.
