Meezan Bank Becomes First in Pakistan to Launch Visa Global eSIM for Infinite Debit Cardholders

Meezan Bank, the country’s first and largest Islamic financial institution, has achieved a significant milestone by becoming the first bank in Pakistan to launch Visa’s latest digital solution—the Visa Global eSIM—for its Visa Infinite Debit Card customers. This strategic move marks a new era in digital banking convenience and global connectivity for high-net-worth clientele in Pakistan.

The Visa Global eSIM is a cutting-edge offering designed to cater specifically to international travelers, enabling seamless access to mobile data services in over 150 countries without the need for a physical SIM card. The innovation allows users to activate and manage international data plans directly from their compatible devices, eliminating the hassle of SIM swapping or dependence on insecure public Wi-Fi networks while abroad.

This rollout is underpinned by Visa’s secure and extensive backend infrastructure, ensuring both device compatibility and robust service reliability. As part of the benefit, eligible Meezan Bank Visa Infinite Debit Cardholders will receive up to 3GB of complimentary high-speed data valid for 21 days in participating countries. Additionally, users will enjoy a 25% discount on top-up purchases once their free data allocation is exhausted.

Commenting on the development, Syed Iftikhar ul Haq, Group Head of Consumer Finance at Meezan Bank, highlighted the importance of offering digitally empowered services for modern travelers. “We are pleased to roll out this first-of-its-kind lifestyle benefit for the Pakistani market. This launch enhances the international travel experience by allowing our cardholders to remain securely connected across borders without the inconvenience of sourcing local SIM cards,” he said.

He added that this innovative offering aligns with Meezan Bank’s broader strategy to provide premium digital banking solutions that combine practicality, security, and lifestyle benefits. “As the first bank in the country to integrate a global data roaming service into a high-tier debit card, we are proud to deliver real value to our customers,” Iftikhar ul Haq noted.

Visa also expressed enthusiasm over the partnership. Umar Khan, Country Manager for Pakistan and Afghanistan at Visa, emphasized the rising need for secure mobile connectivity in an increasingly digital world. “As international travel expands, staying connected securely and conveniently is more important than ever,” Khan stated.

He further noted that the integration of Visa’s eSIM service into Meezan Bank’s Infinite Debit Card offering ensures effortless and secure global connectivity for users. “With mobile data usage per smartphone having surged over seven times since 2018, we are committed to ensuring our customers stay connected wherever they go,” he added.

The launch of Visa Global eSIM by Meezan Bank not only reflects the evolving expectations of modern banking clients but also demonstrates how financial institutions in Pakistan are beginning to embrace digital transformation on a global scale. By merging financial services with digital connectivity, Meezan Bank is setting a new benchmark for customer experience in the Islamic banking space and beyond.
