Mobilink Bank, Pakistan’s leading digital microfinance institution, took a significant step towards environmental protection with a nationwide plantation drive. Teams from all 109 branches enthusiastically participated, planting roughly 5,000 saplings to enhance Pakistan’s forest cover and mitigate climate change impacts. This initiative highlights their commitment to leaving a greener legacy for future generations.
The tree planting campaign aligns with Mobilink Bank’s “Change to Sustain” Climate Action Program. This program envisions a future-proof Pakistan, resilient against the escalating threats posed by climate change. Sustainability is embedded in the bank’s core values, reflected in impactful social responsibility programs designed for broader societal benefit.
Mobilink Bank, a subsidiary of VEON, a global digital operator serving nearly 160 million customers across six markets, stands out for its commitment to environmental responsibility. VEON’s reach extends to 7% of the world’s population.
The plantation drives, held across various cities and towns, included participation not only from Mobilink Bank staff but also from district administration officials, State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) representatives, educators, and civil society members. All expressed hope that this initiative would bolster environmental protection, improve air quality, and beautify urban and rural areas, ultimately enhancing citizens’ lives.
Haaris Mahmood Chaudhary, Mobilink Bank’s Chief Operating Officer, shared his perspective on the drive:
“Mobilink Bank is proud to plant nearly 5,000 trees nationwide through our ‘Change to Sustain’ program. This initiative stems from our core values of sustainability and social responsibility, driving us to create shared value for the communities we serve. Aggressive afforestation is crucial, as Pakistan ranks among the top eight climate change-vulnerable countries. Our program strengthens safeguards against climate change, protecting livelihoods, natural resources, and especially the lives of vulnerable communities, with a focus on women. We firmly believe in building a sustainable and prosperous future for Pakistan.”
Mobilink Bank recognizes that environmental responsibility goes beyond external projects. They actively cultivate a culture of sustainability within their workforce. By engaging employees in environmental initiatives, the bank empowers them to become agents of change. This focus on environmental stewardship fosters collaboration, teamwork, and encourages employees to integrate eco-conscious practices into their daily lives, extending their impact beyond the workplace.
