The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has retained Muzzammil Aslam as Adviser to the Chief Minister on Finance, continuing his responsibilities into the newly constituted provincial cabinet. The decision reflects the provincial leadership’s confidence in his economic expertise and ongoing role in guiding fiscal strategy, budget planning, and economic management for the province.
According to an official notification issued by the Administration Department, Aslam’s retention was approved by the Governor of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on the advice of the Chief Minister. The appointment was made under Section 3(1) of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Advisors and Special Assistants to the Chief Minister (Appointment) Act, 1989, providing formal continuity to his advisory tenure.
Aslam has already been serving in this advisory capacity and will now continue directing provincial economic affairs under the current administration. His role includes supporting budgetary planning, economic reforms, development financing, and resource allocation strategies amid evolving fiscal challenges.
He was first nominated as Adviser on Finance to the Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on March 6, 2024. Before assuming this position, Aslam was appointed spokesperson for the Federal Minister of Finance in October 2021, where he led communication on major fiscal matters during a period of heightened economic focus. In April 2022, he was appointed as spokesperson on Finance and Economy for Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf, amplifying policy positions at national level. Earlier, in January 2022, he also served as spokesperson on energy matters, reflecting cross-sector policy involvement.
Aslam brings over 15 years of core experience in economics, financial markets, equity research, business development, and capital markets advisory. His professional engagement includes working with major financial institutions, research entities, and public sector stakeholders. His economic analysis and advisory work have been referenced by key government bodies and institutions during policy formulation cycles.
His academic profile spans domestic and international qualifications. He holds a Bachelor of Commerce and a Master of Public Administration from the University of Karachi, an MAS in Economics from the Applied Economics Research Centre at the same university, and a Master of Science in Economics from the University of Bath in the United Kingdom. This global academic exposure coupled with local market understanding positions him to guide provincial financial direction with data-driven and institutionally aligned strategies.
In addition to Aslam’s continuation, the provincial government has also appointed Taj Muhammad as Adviser to the Chief Minister with immediate effect. The appointment forms part of the ongoing process to complete the formation and strengthening of the cabinet team, ensuring administrative stability and policy continuity within the province.
The retention of Aslam underscores the provincial government’s approach of sustaining financial leadership consistency while navigating economic conditions, development expenditure needs, and resource mobilization priorities. His ongoing role is expected to support continuity in economic planning, fiscal discipline, and the province’s broader economic reform direction.
