The Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan (SECP) has inaugurated a Security Operations Center (SOC) to strengthen the protection of its critical information assets and improve its ability to respond to cybersecurity threats. Chairman of the National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA), Lieutenant General Muhammad Munir Afsar, formally inaugurated the facility, highlighting the importance of cybersecurity in safeguarding digital infrastructure and supporting the secure delivery of public services. The inauguration marks an important step in strengthening the commission’s security capabilities as government institutions and regulatory bodies increasingly depend on technology to manage information and provide services.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by SECP Commissioners Imtiaz Haider, Muzzafar Ahmed Mirza and Zeeshan Khattak, along with other senior officials. The presence of senior representatives from both organizations highlighted the importance of institutional coordination and technology-led security measures in protecting sensitive information. As regulatory operations become increasingly dependent on digital systems, maintaining the confidentiality, integrity and availability of information has become an important operational requirement. The new Security Operations Center is intended to support these objectives by improving the commission’s capacity to monitor its systems and identify potential security risks.
The newly established SOC will provide real-time monitoring of SECP’s information systems, enabling security teams to identify suspicious activity and potential threats as they emerge. Its capabilities will include proactive threat detection and faster incident response, helping the commission identify security concerns before they develop into more serious disruptions. Continuous monitoring can also support the early identification of unusual system activity, allowing security personnel to investigate incidents and take appropriate action. These capabilities are particularly important for an institution responsible for regulating Pakistan’s corporate and capital markets, where the protection of sensitive institutional and financial information is essential to maintaining confidence in digital operations.
The inauguration follows broader efforts by SECP to modernize its information technology infrastructure and improve the efficiency of its regulatory services. During an earlier meeting, SECP Chairman Dr. Kabir Ahmed Sidhu briefed Lieutenant General Muhammad Munir Afsar on the commission’s ongoing information technology reforms, infrastructure modernization initiatives and adoption of artificial intelligence and other emerging technologies. The briefing covered the role of technology in improving service delivery and facilitating ease of doing business. These initiatives reflect the commission’s efforts to strengthen its digital capabilities while supporting more efficient interactions with businesses, regulated entities and other stakeholders.
The integration of cybersecurity measures with wider technology modernization efforts is significant because expanding digital services also increases the need for stronger protection against unauthorized access, system vulnerabilities and other potential threats. A dedicated Security Operations Center can help an organization develop a more coordinated approach to monitoring its digital environment, investigating suspicious incidents and responding to security events. For SECP, these capabilities are expected to strengthen operational resilience by improving visibility into potential threats and supporting a more structured response when security incidents occur. The effectiveness of the facility will depend on continuous monitoring, appropriate security procedures and coordination among the teams responsible for protecting the commission’s systems.
The project has been supported by Karandaaz Pakistan, enabled by Inara Technologies, and incorporates managed security services provided by REWTERZ. Their respective contributions have supported the establishment and operational capabilities of the facility, bringing together project support, technology enablement and security services. The involvement of these organizations highlights the role of collaboration between institutions and technology providers in developing cybersecurity infrastructure. Managed security services can also help organizations strengthen their monitoring and incident-handling capabilities by providing specialized support for identifying and addressing potential risks.
The launch of the Security Operations Center adds to SECP’s ongoing efforts to improve its technology infrastructure, strengthen information protection and modernize regulatory operations. As the commission continues adopting artificial intelligence and emerging technologies to improve services, cybersecurity will remain a key consideration in ensuring that digital systems operate securely and reliably. Through real-time monitoring, proactive threat detection and faster incident response, the new facility is designed to reinforce the commission’s ability to protect critical information assets while supporting the resilience of its technology-driven operations.
