National Institute of Banking and Finance Announces Comprehensive AML 360 Training Workshop in Karachi

The National Institute of Banking and Finance has officially announced the launch of an intensive, high-level professional training workshop titled AML 360, aimed at strengthening the anti-money laundering and counter-terrorist financing defenses across the financial landscape of Pakistan. The specialized one-day program is scheduled to take place on August 12, 2026, at the institute’s primary training facility in Karachi. Moving forward with an immersive, face-to-face operational structure, the session will run from nine in the morning until five in the afternoon, offering deep conceptual clarity and practical compliance strategies to mitigate systemic risks.

The primary objective of this instructional workshop is to clear, enhance, and develop a comprehensive understanding among participants regarding contemporary money laundering typologies and related mitigating factors. By addressing the operational vulnerabilities within the banking stream, the program aims to proactively minimize frauds and structural risks related to illicit financial activities. Ultimately, the regulatory initiative seeks to contribute toward making the national economy sustainable for achieving long-term growth goals, safeguarding institutional integrity against sophisticated criminal enterprise.

The instructional content for the workshop covers a vast array of technical and regulatory baselines vital for modern risk management. The curriculum begins with a baseline introduction to money laundering and terrorist financing, leading into an investigation of the specific methodologies and typologies adopted by bad actors globally. Participants will delve into the mechanics of effective money laundering controls, the execution of internal corporate policies, and the deployment of compliance and audit frameworks designed to flag suspicious transactions.

A substantial portion of the training module is dedicated to high-risk entities, focusing heavily on enhanced due diligence protocols for politically exposed persons, non-governmental organizations, and non-profit organizations. Furthermore, the course material integrates critical regulatory frameworks, including an in-depth analysis of the revised Prudential Regulations R1 through R6, alongside functional oversight concerning correspondent banking, wire transfers, suspicious transaction reports, and currency transaction reports. The workshop also provides vital operational overviews of the revised forty Financial Action Task Force recommendations, the roles, responsibilities, and actions of the Financial Monitoring Unit, and the global sanctions frameworks enforced by the Office of Foreign Assets Control.

The target audience for this training has been meticulously designed to encompass financial professionals handling critical customer-facing operations, complex risk management grids, and rigid regulatory checks. This includes branch managers and operations managers who oversee the daily transaction floors, relationship managers and customer service officers who manage direct onboarding, compliance professionals and anti-money laundering analysts charged with active transaction monitoring, and both internal and external auditors responsible for institutional governance.

The specialized workshop will be facilitated by Mr. Muhammad Mazahir, a barrister, certified anti-money laundering specialist, and a seasoned veteran of the financial crime compliance landscape in Pakistan. He currently serves as the Unit Head for Transaction Monitoring at Habib Metropolitan Bank Limited, where he leads advanced investigations and drives complex case resolutions. His extensive professional career spans over a decade across leading tier-one banking institutions, including previous long-term tenures at Standard Chartered Bank and Bank AL Habib, allowing him to build profound expertise on the frontline realities of regulatory compliance rather than theoretical frameworks alone. His command over sophisticated transaction systems such as Oracle Mantas and SafeWatch provides an analytical approach to identifying financial red flags.

The institute has set the professional training investment at eighteen thousand Pakistani rupees plus applicable sales tax per individual participant. Given the technical nature of the compliance curriculum and the focus on operational skill enhancement, banking institutions and financial corporations are encouraged to submit their candidate enrollments ahead of the formal deadline. The last date for receiving official corporate nominations has been fixed for August 11, 2026.
