The National Bank of Pakistan (NBP) has announced the successful launch of Raast Person-to-Merchant (P2M) QR payments, marking a significant step in the country’s shift toward a cashless economy. This initiative enables merchants, from government offices to local markets, to accept secure, instant, and transparent digital payments, improving financial inclusion and transaction efficiency across Pakistan.
NBP’s Executive Passport Office in Islamabad has been equipped with NBP’s Raast P2M acquiring solution, allowing the institution to generate QR codes for each transaction in real time. The initiative reflects NBP’s commitment to digital innovation and expanding the adoption of electronic payments across the country.
As part of the rollout, NBP conducted field visits in six cities to actively engage with the business community. Merchants were onboarded, and Raast QR codes were installed at retail shops, empowering small and medium businesses to accept digital payments seamlessly. This approach not only supports cashless transactions but also increases transparency and efficiency in commercial operations.
NBP officials highlighted the benefits of the P2M initiative, which include secure and instant digital payments, financial inclusion for merchants and consumers, reduced reliance on cash handling, and enhanced transparency in everyday transactions. By promoting the adoption of QR-based payments, NBP is helping to modernize payment systems and foster a more inclusive financial ecosystem.
Industry observers view the launch of Raast P2M QR payments as a crucial step toward achieving Pakistan’s vision of a cashless economy. The initiative demonstrates how banks and fintech solutions can collaborate to provide practical, technology-driven tools for both consumers and businesses.
Through Raast P2M QR payments, NBP is reinforcing its role as a catalyst for digital transformation in Pakistan, enabling merchants of all sizes to participate in the digital economy while improving convenience, security, and efficiency for customers.
