NIBAF Concludes Certified General Banking Officer Training Batch 6 in Karachi

The National Institute of Banking and Finance (NIBAF) has successfully concluded the Certified General Banking Officer (CGBO) Training – Batch 6, conducted from September 22 to 26, 2025, in Karachi. The program, designed to enhance professional capabilities in banking operations, was held at the Sindh Bank Learning and Development Office in collaboration with Sindh Bank Limited.

Led by trainer Mr. Naveed Illahi Malik, the session focused on equipping participants with the essential knowledge and practical skills required to excel in the evolving landscape of general banking. Delivered in a face-to-face format, the training provided officers with the opportunity to engage directly with an experienced instructor while participating in discussions and activities that simulated real-world banking scenarios.

The CGBO program is one of NIBAF’s signature initiatives, aimed at strengthening the capacity of banking professionals across the country. By building a deeper understanding of general banking operations, the training ensures that participants are better prepared to contribute effectively to their institutions and to Pakistan’s wider financial services sector.

General banking forms the backbone of financial institutions, encompassing areas such as deposits, customer service, credit management, and compliance. With rapid advancements in technology and increasing customer expectations, banks now require their officers to not only master traditional banking functions but also adapt quickly to digital tools and regulatory changes. Programs like CGBO respond to these needs by preparing a workforce that is both technically competent and adaptable to new challenges.

The partnership with Sindh Bank Limited reflects a growing recognition among commercial banks of the importance of structured professional development. By investing in training programs, institutions like Sindh Bank are ensuring their staff can maintain high service standards, remain compliant with regulatory requirements, and better support customer needs in a competitive financial market.

Participants of Batch 6 gained comprehensive insights into multiple aspects of banking, from operational efficiency to customer relationship management. The interactive sessions encouraged problem-solving approaches, allowing officers to apply concepts in practical scenarios. The outcome is a more confident and capable group of banking professionals ready to add value to their organizations.

Industry observers view initiatives such as the CGBO program as critical for Pakistan’s banking sector, particularly at a time when financial institutions are balancing the demands of digitization with the need for strong operational foundations. Well-trained officers ensure that banks can provide seamless services while also navigating compliance, risk, and innovation challenges.

NIBAF’s ongoing focus on capacity-building aligns with the State Bank of Pakistan’s broader vision of creating a resilient and inclusive financial system. By regularly conducting specialized training sessions across the country, NIBAF is playing a central role in upgrading the skills of the workforce and fostering a culture of continuous learning in the banking industry.

The successful completion of CGBO Batch 6 in Karachi is another step in that journey, highlighting the importance of structured learning pathways for banking officers who will shape the sector’s future.
