NIBAF Pakistan has conducted a Cyber Security Basics module as part of the PSPC Leadership Induction Program (PLIP) – Batch 3, reinforcing the importance of cyber awareness and information security for emerging public sector leaders. The session was designed to build foundational understanding of cybersecurity risks, common threat vectors, and preventive practices required to safeguard organizational assets in an increasingly digital operating environment.
Held on January 20, 2026, at the NIBAF Pakistan Islamabad Campus, the session formed part of the structured learning framework of the PSPC Leadership Induction Program, which aims to equip participants with essential knowledge and skills relevant to modern governance, digital transformation, and institutional resilience. As public sector organizations increasingly rely on digital platforms and data-driven processes, cybersecurity has become a critical area of concern for leadership at all levels.
The Cyber Security Basics module was facilitated by Ms. Mehwish Enam, who guided participants through key concepts related to information security, cyber threats, and risk mitigation. The session focused on helping future leaders understand not only the technical aspects of cybersecurity but also the strategic and managerial responsibilities associated with protecting sensitive information and digital infrastructure.
During the session, participants were introduced to common cyber threat vectors, including phishing attacks, malware, ransomware, and social engineering techniques. Emphasis was placed on how such threats can disrupt operations, compromise data integrity, and undermine public trust if not effectively managed. The discussion also covered the growing sophistication of cyber risks and the need for continuous vigilance in both public and private sector environments.
In addition to threat awareness, the module highlighted best practices for cyber hygiene and preventive controls. These included secure password management, access controls, data protection protocols, and the importance of regular system updates and employee awareness. Participants were encouraged to view cybersecurity not solely as a technical function but as an organizational responsibility that requires leadership commitment, clear policies, and a culture of accountability.
The session also addressed the role of leadership in responding to cyber incidents. Topics such as incident reporting, coordination with technical teams, and decision-making under pressure were discussed to help participants understand how leaders can effectively manage cyber-related crises. This approach aligns with the broader objective of the PSPC Leadership Induction Program, which seeks to prepare participants for real-world challenges faced by public institutions.
NIBAF Pakistan continues to play a central role in capacity building for public sector professionals by integrating contemporary subjects such as cybersecurity into leadership development programs. By incorporating digital risk awareness into PLIP, the institute aims to ensure that future leaders are better prepared to navigate the complexities of a digitally evolving governance landscape.
The Cyber Security Basics module reflects a growing recognition within Pakistan’s public sector of the need to strengthen institutional resilience against cyber risks. As digital transformation accelerates across government functions, awareness and preparedness at the leadership level are increasingly seen as essential to maintaining operational continuity and safeguarding national and organizational interests.
Participants of PLIP Batch 3 are expected to apply the insights gained from the session in their respective roles, contributing to more secure and resilient organizational practices. The session marked another step in NIBAF Pakistan’s ongoing efforts to align leadership development with emerging global and local challenges, particularly in the domain of digital security and risk management.
