NIBAF Hosts Training on Critical Thinking and Emotional Intelligence to Enhance Decision-Making Skills

The National Institute of Banking and Finance (NIBAF) successfully organized a two-day training program titled “Mastering Critical Thinking and Emotional Intelligence” at its Lahore Campus from August 19–20, 2025. The program was designed to equip professionals with advanced tools for decision-making, problem-solving, and emotional resilience, which are increasingly essential skills in today’s complex work environments.

The training was attended by 12 professionals representing diverse institutions. By combining elements of psychology, leadership, and strategic thinking, the course aimed to build a stronger foundation for effective workplace communication, stress management, and adaptive decision-making. NIBAF continues to emphasize the importance of personal and professional development alongside technical skills, positioning itself as a leading institution for capacity building in Pakistan.

The first day of the program was led by Dr. Tariq Rustam Chohan, Additional Inspector General, Punjab. With his extensive experience in leadership and crisis management, Dr. Chohan provided participants with deep insights into structured critical thinking. His sessions explored how analytical reasoning, situational awareness, and clarity of judgment can support better outcomes in organizational and public sector decision-making. Drawing from real-life experiences, he highlighted the importance of objectivity and discipline in leadership roles.

The second day was facilitated by Syeda Ayesha Noor, a clinical psychologist and PhD scholar specializing in trauma-focused gender-based violence. Her sessions focused on emotional intelligence, emphasizing the role of self-awareness, empathy, and emotional regulation in professional environments. Participants were guided through exercises designed to improve resilience under pressure and strengthen interpersonal communication skills. Noor underscored that emotional intelligence is not just an individual competency but a critical driver of organizational harmony and productivity.

Interactive activities, case studies, and group discussions formed an integral part of the program. Participants engaged in scenario-based exercises that tested their ability to apply critical thinking under stress while also managing emotional responses effectively. These sessions enabled them to bridge theoretical knowledge with practical application, ensuring the skills gained could be directly translated into workplace performance.

The training reflects NIBAF’s commitment to preparing professionals for the evolving challenges of modern organizational life. As workplaces become increasingly dynamic and stress-prone, the ability to balance rational analysis with emotional stability is vital for sustainable growth and leadership. The initiative also highlights NIBAF’s holistic approach to professional development, going beyond technical expertise to focus on building well-rounded individuals capable of leading in diverse contexts.

By concluding the two-day program, NIBAF reinforced its role as a pioneer in delivering specialized training programs that address both cognitive and emotional aspects of professional success. Participants left with actionable strategies to strengthen decision-making, improve collaboration, and enhance resilience in their respective institutions.
