The National Institute of Banking and Finance (NIBAF) Pakistan has commenced its Mid-Career Management Development Program (MMDP), an intensive three-week initiative designed to build the leadership and managerial capacity of mid-career officers in the banking sector. The training, which runs from September 1 to September 20, 2025, is being held at NIBAF’s Karachi campus and is tailored for officers from the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) and SBP-Banking Services Corporation (SBP-BSC).
The program is being led by Mr. Asif Mehmood from SJD RD, who brings substantial expertise in regulatory development and institutional strengthening. His guidance ensures that participants not only gain theoretical insights but also learn to apply strategic tools in real-world banking and regulatory environments.
The curriculum of the MMDP is carefully structured to enhance critical competencies required at the mid-career level. Officers are engaging with topics such as strategic leadership, organizational change management, performance evaluation, problem-solving frameworks, and communication strategies. These themes are vital for equipping participants with the skills to take on higher responsibilities and to drive institutional innovation.
As the financial sector faces rapid changes driven by digitization, global integration, and shifting regulatory landscapes, mid-level officers are increasingly expected to balance operational efficiency with long-term strategic planning. The MMDP is designed to meet this need by preparing participants to act as change agents within their organizations, fostering adaptability and resilience in uncertain environments.
Participants are also being exposed to interactive sessions, case studies, and collaborative projects that simulate real-world challenges in the banking sector. This practical approach ensures that learning outcomes are directly transferable to workplace situations, enabling officers to improve decision-making and leadership effectiveness.
NIBAF has long recognized the importance of building a strong leadership pipeline in Pakistan’s financial system. By investing in the development of mid-career officers, the institute is ensuring that the sector has a pool of professionals who are well-prepared to guide their organizations through complex challenges while upholding regulatory integrity and operational excellence.
Senior officials at NIBAF emphasized that the MMDP reflects the institute’s vision of equipping the financial sector with skilled leaders who can respond to both domestic and international challenges. By developing competencies in leadership and management, the program contributes directly to the sustainability and resilience of the banking ecosystem.
The program also reinforces the role of NIBAF as a premier training institution in Pakistan, bridging the gap between technical expertise and leadership development. Through programs like the MMDP, NIBAF continues to support the professional growth of officers who play a pivotal role in shaping the future of Pakistan’s financial infrastructure.
The conclusion of this training will not only mark a milestone for the participating officers but will also highlight the central bank’s commitment to investing in people who will lead Pakistan’s banking sector in years to come.
