NIBAF Pakistan Announces Executive Training on International Trade and TBML

NIBAF Pakistan has announced a three-day executive training program focused on International Trade and Trade-Based Money Laundering (TBML), with the program scheduled to take place from November 24 to 26, 2026, at its Karachi Campus. The executive-level training is designed to provide banking professionals with practical and regulatory insights into international trade activities and the risks associated with trade-based money laundering. The program will run from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM each day and carries an investment of PKR 60,000 plus applicable tax per participant.

The training is targeted at professionals working in areas directly linked to trade operations, compliance and anti-money laundering, anti-trade-based money laundering units, trade relationship management, trade processing, transaction monitoring systems and internal audit. By bringing together these functions, the program is intended to address the regulatory, operational and risk-management aspects involved in international trade transactions. The training also provides an opportunity for banking officers to strengthen their understanding of controls and processes relevant to trade-related financial activity.

Muhammad Akram Zaki is among the facilitators for the program. He has nearly four decades of experience with the State Bank of Pakistan, including around 20 years with the Foreign Exchange Operations Department, where he headed divisions responsible for remittances, foreign exchange monitoring, export and import overdues and subsidies. He is a certified State Bank of Pakistan Banking Services Corporation Master Trainer and previously served as Senior Joint Director. He also received the State Bank of Pakistan Banking Services Corporation’s first Performance Improvement Award. His professional experience includes contributions to foreign exchange fraud detection, WeBOC digitization, V-11 and V-20 reporting reforms and foreign exchange policy guidance. He has also represented the State Bank of Pakistan Banking Services Corporation before institutions including the Federal Investigation Agency, National Accountability Bureau, Customs, Federal Board of Revenue and courts. He holds an M.Com from the University of Karachi, an MBA from the Institute of Business Administration and the Junior Associateship of the Institute of Bankers Pakistan qualification. He currently serves as Head of Regulatory Affairs for Trade and Outward Commercial Remittances at United Bank Limited.

The program will also feature Mr. Salim Thobani, a trade and compliance specialist with more than 22 years of professional experience. He currently serves as Head of the Foreign Exchange Monitoring Unit at Meezan Bank and has previously held senior trade anti-money laundering positions at NIB Bank and Standard Chartered Bank. His experience in trade compliance and foreign exchange monitoring is expected to contribute to the training’s focus on the regulatory and operational dimensions of international trade transactions and associated financial crime risks.

Mr. Muhammad Umar Farooq will also serve as a facilitator. He has more than 10 years of regulatory and operational experience and currently holds the position of Deputy Director at the State Bank of Pakistan.
