NIBAF Pakistan has successfully conducted a one-day professional workshop for the Shariah Secretariat staff of United Bank Limited (UBL), aimed at strengthening institutional understanding and practical implementation of Shariah governance within the banking environment. The workshop was held on December 24, 2025, at UBL’s Learning and Development facility in Karachi.
The session focused on enhancing participants’ knowledge of Shariah governance frameworks, regulatory expectations, and their practical application within Islamic and Shariah-compliant banking operations. As Pakistan’s banking sector continues to deepen its focus on Shariah compliance and governance, such capacity-building initiatives are increasingly seen as critical to ensuring consistency, transparency, and regulatory alignment.
During the workshop, NIBAF’s resource persons engaged participants through structured discussions and applied learning, addressing key aspects of Shariah governance, internal controls, and the role of Shariah Secretariats in supporting compliance across banking operations. Emphasis was placed on aligning institutional practices with prevailing regulatory guidelines and strengthening coordination between Shariah governance functions and operational teams.
The training reinforced the importance of robust Shariah compliance mechanisms within banks, particularly as Islamic banking assets continue to grow and attract greater regulatory and public scrutiny. Participants were provided with insights into best practices and emerging expectations in Shariah governance, helping them translate regulatory principles into day-to-day banking processes.
According to NIBAF Pakistan, the workshop was designed not only to refresh technical knowledge but also to support the professional development of UBL’s Shariah Secretariat staff by enhancing their ability to address practical governance challenges. The initiative reflects a broader commitment to developing skilled human capital capable of supporting the evolving needs of Pakistan’s Islamic banking sector.
UBL’s Shariah Secretariat plays a central role in ensuring that the bank’s products, services, and operations remain aligned with Shariah principles and regulatory requirements. By investing in targeted training programs, the bank aims to further strengthen its internal compliance framework and reinforce stakeholder confidence in its Shariah governance structure.
NIBAF Pakistan, operating under the umbrella of the State Bank of Pakistan, continues to play a key role in advancing professional standards across the banking industry through specialized training and development programs. Its collaboration with commercial banks such as UBL highlights the growing emphasis on continuous learning and institutional capacity building in Pakistan’s financial sector.
The successful completion of the workshop underscores the importance of ongoing professional development in maintaining effective Shariah governance systems and supporting the sustainable growth of Islamic banking in Pakistan.
