Oil & Gas Development Company Limited (OGDCL) has successfully initiated production from its new development well, Pasakhi-14, located in District Hyderabad. This marks an important milestone as the well is expected to produce 1,100 barrels per day (BPD) of oil, significantly contributing to the company’s growing production capabilities. The well is situated within the Pasakhi & Pasakhi North Development & Production Lease (D&PL), an area where OGDCL holds 100% working interest, as confirmed in a filing to the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX).
The Pasakhi-14 well was drilled to a depth of 2,183 meters and is specifically targeting the hydrocarbon potential of the upper sands of the Lower Goru formation. This geological formation is known for its significant oil reserves, and the drilling operation was designed with precision to maximize its output. OGDCL’s ability to successfully delineate and drill the well using its in-house expertise highlights the company’s commitment to efficient exploration and production practices.
A key aspect of the success of Pasakhi-14 has been the utilization of advanced drilling technologies. OGDCL employed cutting-edge tools, such as the Rotary Steerable System (RSS), Electromagnetic Measurement While Drilling (MWD), and a nitrified mud system—marking the first time these technologies have been used by the company. The Rotary Steerable System allowed for precise directional control during drilling, ensuring that the well reached its target zone with minimal risk of deviation. The Electromagnetic Measurement While Drilling system further enabled real-time monitoring of the well’s progress, optimizing performance throughout the operation.
The application of a nitrified mud system, which was used for the first time by OGDCL, proved vital in preserving the integrity of the formation during drilling. This mud system helped stabilize the wellbore and ensured that there was minimal disturbance to the surrounding environment, which ultimately resulted in an impressive well performance.
Additionally, the well has been equipped with state-of-the-art Electrical Submersible Pump (ESP) technology. ESPs are crucial for lifting fluids from the well to the surface, particularly in wells with higher production rates. The deployment of this technology enhances the well’s ability to deliver consistent and efficient oil production, further improving the overall output.
OGDCL’s successful drilling and production from Pasakhi-14 underscores its commitment to increasing national energy security through effective exploration and production activities. The company has reiterated its focus on shareholder value, emphasizing the importance of exploration efforts that are supported by efficient drilling practices and advanced technologies. By investing in cutting-edge tools and fostering operational excellence, OGDCL aims to continue driving production growth while also optimizing existing assets.
The new well’s production capacity is an encouraging step toward strengthening Pakistan’s energy infrastructure and reducing reliance on imported oil. As OGDCL continues to expand its operations and leverage advanced technologies, the company is poised to make significant contributions to the country’s oil and gas sector, helping to ensure long-term energy security for Pakistan.
