Pakistan and Azerbaijan have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening economic cooperation, emphasizing the need to diversify and expand bilateral trade and investment across multiple sectors. Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif held talks with Mikayil Jabbarov, Minister of Economy of the Republic of Azerbaijan, who is leading a senior delegation on an official visit to Pakistan, according to a press release. The discussions focused on identifying strategic areas for collaboration and enhancing regional connectivity, highlighting the growing economic partnership between the two countries.
During the meeting, both sides reviewed ongoing projects and cooperation in defence production, petroleum and mineral exploration, infrastructure development, dairy and livestock, hospitality, and information technology. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif highlighted Pakistan’s strategic position as the shortest route to Afghanistan and Central Asia, noting that this makes the country a vital partner for regional trade and logistics. Azerbaijan’s participation in the Trans-Caspian International Trade Corridor was also acknowledged as a key factor in strengthening regional economic integration.
Prime Minister Sharif proposed the establishment of a Pakistan-Azerbaijan Joint Investment Company with equal contributions from both sides, aiming to streamline investment flows and facilitate joint ventures across critical sectors. He welcomed Azerbaijan’s interest in the White Oil Pipeline Project and encouraged SOCAR to explore upstream oil and gas opportunities in Pakistan, reflecting the country’s commitment to energy collaboration. Both leaders recognized that deepening economic engagement would create new opportunities for businesses in both countries while supporting regional stability and growth.
The talks also included discussions on finalizing the Roadmap on Cooperation in Commerce, Economy, Industry, and Investment for 2025–2028. Mikayil Jabbarov expressed appreciation for Pakistan’s hospitality and voiced optimism that upcoming engagements would lead to practical agreements benefiting both nations. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif extended an invitation to President Ilham Aliyev to visit Pakistan, signaling Pakistan’s intention to further strengthen high-level diplomatic and economic ties.
Senior Pakistani officials present at the meeting included Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Muhammad Ishaq Dar, Minister for Power Sardar Awais Khan Leghari, Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Foreign Affairs Syed Tariq Fatemi, and other top government representatives. The discussions underscored the mutual commitment of both countries to explore innovative opportunities in trade, technology, energy, and infrastructure while promoting sustainable economic growth.
The meeting reflected Pakistan’s proactive approach to leveraging its strategic location, strengthening regional connectivity, and building long-term partnerships with like-minded countries.
