Pakistan’s Consumer Confidence Index (CCI) declined to 40.2 points in December 2025 from 41 points in November, signaling a modest decrease in optimism among households, according to a survey report released by the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP).
The survey also highlighted changes in specific economic perceptions. Inflation expectations eased slightly to 18.9 points in December from 20 points in November, suggesting some relief in consumers’ outlook on price trends. Meanwhile, concerns about unemployment increased to 70.7 points from 69.2 in November, reflecting growing apprehension over job security and labor market conditions.
Expected household income for December also fell, dropping to 45.5 points from 47.6 points in November, indicating cautious sentiment regarding future financial prospects.
The CCI report evaluates consumers’ confidence both in the national economy and in their personal financial situations. The index is measured on a scale from 0 to 100, where readings above 50 indicate optimism and those below 50 reflect a pessimistic view of current and future economic conditions.
The index takes into account both the ‘current situation,’ reflecting economic changes experienced over the past six months, and ‘future expectations,’ which gauge anticipated developments over the next six months. The December report suggests that households are increasingly cautious, with lower confidence in income prospects and growing concern over unemployment, despite slightly reduced inflation expectations.
Analysts note that a CCI below 50 can affect consumer spending and demand for goods and services, potentially slowing economic growth if household sentiment remains subdued. The report underscores the importance of monitoring public confidence as Pakistan continues its efforts toward macroeconomic stability and growth.
Overall, the decline in the CCI highlights the challenges facing consumers amid ongoing economic adjustments, including employment uncertainties and cautious spending behavior, which may influence broader market dynamics in the coming months.
