Pakistan Petroleum Limited Achieves Breakthrough Production at Faiz X-1 Deep Well

Pakistan Petroleum Limited has officially announced the successful commissioning of the Faiz X-1 Deep well within the Gambat South Block, marking a significant technical achievement in the country’s energy landscape. In a formal disclosure to the Pakistan Stock Exchange on Friday, the state-owned exploration and production company confirmed that the well is currently yielding approximately 3.6 million standard cubic feet per day of gas alongside 750 barrels per day of condensate. This development follows a period of rigorous optimization and infrastructure development aimed at unlocking previously stranded resources.

The history of the Faiz X-1 Deep well underscores the challenges of resource monetization in remote exploration blocks. Although the well was originally drilled in 2014, the discovery remained dormant for over a decade. At the time of the initial find, the project was deemed uneconomical due to a total lack of nearby pipeline infrastructure. This forced the operator to wait for a more favorable economic environment and the expansion of the regional gathering network before the deep Basal Sand interval could be reconsidered for commercial development.

The recent breakthrough was made possible after a comprehensive technical and economic re-evaluation. PPL engineers determined that the Basal Sand interval was indeed commercially viable if integrated with existing connectivity from other nearby wells. To bring the project to fruition, the company undertook extensive well intervention and surface facility upgrades. These activities included the complex process of isolating deeper intervals, executing targeted intervention jobs, and installing the necessary surface equipment to handle the high-pressure output of the well.

A critical component of this commissioning was the construction of a 4.5-kilometer feeder line. This new pipeline serves as a vital artery, integrating the Faiz X-1 Deep well into the broader gas gathering network. This connection allows the raw gas and condensate to be transported efficiently to the Gambat South Gas Processing Facilities for final treatment and onward delivery to the national grid. The company noted that the commissioning phase began on February 25, 2026, with production volumes being ramped up in carefully managed stages to ensure reservoir stability.

For Pakistan Petroleum Limited, the successful activation of this well is a testament to its commitment to monetizing discoveries in a cost-effective manner. By utilizing existing processing infrastructure and focusing on strategic feeder lines, the company has managed to turn a decade-old discovery into a productive asset. This increase in domestic gas and condensate supplies is particularly vital for the national economy, as it helps meet the rising energy requirements while reducing the financial pressure associated with fuel imports. The project stands as a prime example of how technical re-evaluation and infrastructure optimization can breathe new life into older exploration projects.
