The Pakistani rupee strengthened marginally against the US dollar during Friday’s interbank trading session, gaining 2.94 paisa to close at PKR 277.32 per US dollar on September 11, 2026. The local currency had settled at PKR 277.35 against the dollar in the previous trading session. The latest movement represents a modest improvement in the rupee’s interbank value, while the currency continued to maintain a relatively narrow trading range during the session.
During intraday trading, the rupee moved between a high bid of PKR 277.50 and a low ask of PKR 277.30 against the US dollar. In the open market, exchange companies quoted the dollar at PKR 277.70 for buying and PKR 278.40 for selling. The difference between interbank and open-market rates reflected the separate trading conditions in the two segments of the foreign exchange market.
The rupee also recorded gains against several major international currencies during the session. Against the Euro, the local currency appreciated by Rs1.02, or 0.32%, to close at PKR 321.71 compared with PKR 322.73 a day earlier. The rupee strengthened by Rs1.11, or 0.29%, against the British Pound, settling at PKR 374.64 versus the previous close of PKR 375.74.

The daily gains against the Saudi Riyal and UAE Dirham were smaller than those recorded against the Euro, British Pound and Swiss Franc, but continued the broader pattern of modest appreciation recorded across several currencies.
On a cumulative basis, the rupee has appreciated by 83.86 paisa, or 0.30%, against the US dollar during the current fiscal year. On a calendar-year basis, the local currency has gained Rs2.80, representing an appreciation of 1.01% against the dollar. The figures indicate that despite daily fluctuations in the interbank market, the rupee has recorded an overall improvement against the US currency across both measurement periods.
The money market also recorded movement during the session, with the benchmark six-month Karachi Interbank Bid and Offer rates increasing by 5 basis points. The six-month bid rate rose to 11.74%, while the offer rate increased to 11.99%. These rates provide an indication of pricing conditions in the interbank money market and form part of the broader financial market environment in which currency trading takes place.
The rupee’s performance against other currencies remained mixed over longer periods despite the positive daily movement. The currency was stronger against the Swiss Franc, Saudi Riyal and UAE Dirham on a year-to-date basis, while it remained weaker against the Euro and British Pound over the same period. Against the Chinese Yuan, the rupee had also recorded a year-to-date decline, while its performance against the Japanese Yen remained slightly negative.

Alongside the dollar, the rupee also advanced against the Euro, British Pound, Swiss Franc, Japanese Yen, Chinese Yuan, Saudi Riyal and UAE Dirham. The movement came as six-month Karachi Interbank Bid and Offer rates also edged higher, keeping both currency and money-market developments in focus.
