SBOTS-27 Trainees Explore History and Nature with NIBAF’s Excursion to Taxila Museum and Khanpur Dam

The National Institute of Banking and Finance (NIBAF) arranged an enriching excursion trip for the trainees of the State Bank Officers Training Scheme (SBOTS-27) on July 26, 2025. The one-day journey took participants to two notable locations — the historically significant Taxila Museum and the serene Khanpur Dam — offering a unique mix of cultural exposure, recreational activities, and informal learning outside the training environment.

Organized as part of the broader development experience for SBOTS-27 officers, the excursion reflected NIBAF’s dedication to holistic learning, blending traditional instruction with cultural exploration and team engagement. The trip allowed trainees from the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) to temporarily step away from their intensive coursework and immerse themselves in Pakistan’s historical and natural heritage.

The first stop on the trip was the Taxila Museum, home to one of South Asia’s most prominent collections of Gandhara art, Buddhist relics, and archaeological findings. Trainees had the opportunity to explore artifacts dating back to ancient civilizations that once thrived in the region. Museum curators provided detailed insights into the cultural and religious significance of the relics, enhancing participants’ appreciation for the historical depth and diversity of Pakistan.

Following the museum visit, the group traveled to the scenic Khanpur Dam, located in the foothills of the Margalla Hills. Known for its picturesque landscape and crystal-clear waters, the dam provided the perfect backdrop for relaxation, group activities, and informal discussions. The trainees engaged in team-building exercises and light recreational activities that encouraged camaraderie, communication, and a deeper sense of community among the future leaders of the State Bank of Pakistan.

This excursion formed a vital component of the SBOTS training philosophy, which emphasizes not only academic and professional instruction but also the development of well-rounded individuals. Experiences like these are instrumental in fostering interpersonal skills, emotional intelligence, and cultural awareness — qualities essential for modern central banking professionals operating in a diverse and dynamic environment.

The participants returned with renewed energy, a strengthened network of peers, and a broader understanding of Pakistan’s historical and environmental landscape. Such initiatives also reinforce institutional values such as public service, historical appreciation, and personal development, which are core to the mission of both NIBAF and SBP.

As Pakistan’s financial and regulatory institutions evolve to meet new challenges, investments in people-centric development strategies remain essential. By incorporating educational excursions into its training framework, NIBAF continues to support the growth of future-ready professionals who are equipped not only with technical expertise but also with a grounded sense of identity and purpose.
