The Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan (SECP), in collaboration with the Central Depository Company of Pakistan Limited (CDC) and the Insurance Association of Pakistan (IAP), has introduced the Life Insurance Policy Finder Service. This initiative is aimed at helping the public locate life insurance policies held by deceased relatives, addressing a long-standing challenge faced by families across Pakistan.
Traditionally, families have struggled to identify life insurance policies of deceased members, often leaving legitimate claims unclaimed for years. The newly launched service seeks to strengthen consumer protection, promote transparency, and provide structured and secure access to insurance benefits for rightful heirs and beneficiaries.
According to SECP’s press release, the Life Insurance Policy Finder Service will become publicly available starting 15 December 2025. Individuals seeking to locate a life insurance policy need to send the CNIC number of the deceased via SMS to 99833. If a policy exists against the submitted CNIC, the relevant insurance company or family takaful operator will contact the beneficiary to guide them through the verification and claims process.
To ensure uniform and effective participation, SECP has issued a circular mandating the involvement of all life insurance companies and family takaful operators in the initiative. Participating insurers are required to promptly respond to public queries routed through the system within the agreed turnaround time (TAT) and to continue submitting accurate and updated policy data.
The introduction of this service reflects SECP’s commitment to leveraging technology to make financial services more accessible, transparent, and user-friendly. By centralizing policy information and simplifying the claims process, beneficiaries can now access life insurance payouts more efficiently, reducing delays and administrative burdens.
Industry observers note that this initiative could significantly improve public confidence in Pakistan’s insurance sector. Families that previously remained unaware of policies or faced difficulties in tracing them will now have a direct, technology-driven solution to access benefits. The service also encourages insurance providers to maintain accurate records, enhancing accountability and operational efficiency across the sector.
The collaboration between SECP, CDC, and IAP demonstrates how public-private partnerships can address long-standing gaps in financial services infrastructure. With clear processes, centralized data access, and timely communication channels, the Life Insurance Policy Finder Service is poised to become a model for digital consumer protection in Pakistan’s insurance industry.
Overall, the service not only empowers beneficiaries to claim rightful insurance payouts but also reinforces SECP’s broader mandate to enhance transparency, efficiency, and accessibility in the country’s financial ecosystem. By streamlining the life insurance discovery and claims process, SECP is leveraging technology to create a more inclusive, secure, and consumer-friendly insurance sector in Pakistan.
