Shariah-Compliant aik by BankIslami Expands QR Payments Accessibility for Karachi’s Merchant Community

aik by BankIslami has announced a dedicated activation for its Shariah-compliant QR payment service in Karachi, further strengthening the digital banking landscape in Pakistan. The rollout, aligned with the government’s drive toward a cashless economy, will take place at Creek Walk Food Street from November 7 to 16, 2025. The initiative aims to enable local merchants to adopt fast, secure, and interest-free digital transactions in line with Islamic financial principles while promoting digital financial inclusion across the city.

This development supports the Go Cashless Economy Drive spearheaded by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and the State Bank of Pakistan. With a focus on reducing reliance on physical cash and encouraging modern payment behaviors, aik’s activation represents a meaningful step toward scaling secure digital commerce in high-traffic community hubs. The program extends the brand’s commitment to offering an ethical and contemporary banking experience that reflects both national priorities and consumer expectations in Islamic finance.

Through this campaign, merchants operating within the Creek Walk Food Street will gain access to aik QR, a streamlined digital payment solution designed to process instant transactions while upholding Shariah-compliant standards. The service enables businesses to move away from cash-only operations, simplifying financial flows and improving transaction transparency. The initiative also provides customers with an easy mechanism to make secure payments using their mobile devices, eliminating the need for physical currency and encouraging a more efficient retail ecosystem.

Ashfaque Ahmed, Chief Officer of aik, highlighted the importance of enabling digitally empowered commerce at the grassroots level. He noted that the program is designed to bring digital payments into everyday environments where entrepreneurs serve their communities. According to Ahmed, the QR feature offers merchants the ability to receive payments within seconds, while customers benefit from a compliant, efficient, and cash-free experience that aligns with national growth objectives and modern banking expectations.

To incentivize the adoption of aik QR, the activation includes cashback rewards for early users. Customers of aik and BankIslami will receive 50% cashback on eligible QR payments, while customers from other financial institutions will receive 30% cashback, subject to terms and conditions. These incentives are expected to drive strong engagement from both merchants and customers, encouraging greater participation in Pakistan’s expanding digital economy.

The Creek Walk activation reinforces BankIslami’s wider strategy to broaden access to secure, ethical, and technology-enabled financial services. By facilitating real-time, interest-free transactions in a popular commercial district, aik aims to support small businesses, enhance customer convenience, and strengthen trust in digital banking channels. The initiative underscores the brand’s vision of advancing Shariah-compliant digital finance solutions while contributing to a more inclusive and innovative financial landscape.
