Sindh Bank to Convert All Branches to Islamic Banking by 2027

Sindh Bank President and CEO Muhammad Anwar announced a strategic plan to transition all of the bank’s 330 branches to Islamic banking by 2027. The program will begin with the conversion of 60 branches in 2025, followed by 150 branches in 2026 and the remaining 120 branches by 2027.

Speaking at the certificate distribution ceremony at the Saylani School of Business and Islamic Leadership (SBIL), Anwar highlighted that the move towards Islamic banking is voluntary and rooted in the bank’s belief that Shariah-compliant finance offers a more ethical, disciplined, and transparent alternative to conventional commercial banking. He emphasised that the transition aligns with Sindh Bank’s core values and commitment to providing fully transparent transactions free of hidden charges or conditions.

State Bank of Pakistan Deputy Governor Saleemullah, also present at the ceremony, underscored the importance of Islamic banking being reflected in practice, not just in terminology. He described Islamic banking as a financial system founded on trade and ethical principles established over 1,400 years ago. Saleemullah urged banks and industry experts to lead by example, ensuring that customers understand their transactions are genuinely free from hidden conditions, reinforcing trust and integrity in financial services.

The transition by Sindh Bank is part of a broader effort within Pakistan’s banking sector to expand Shariah-compliant financial services and cater to growing demand for ethical banking solutions. By gradually converting all branches, the bank aims to provide customers with accessible Islamic banking products and services, strengthening its market position and reinforcing public confidence in the sector.
