UBL and AUTON8 achieve zero-loss core banking migration from Silk Bank to Symbols platform

KARACHI: United Bank Limited (UBL) has successfully executed a large-scale core banking data migration in collaboration with AUTON8, completing the transition of customer data from Ex-Silk Bank’s Temenos T24 core banking system to UBL’s Symbols platform within six months. The program, encompassing account records across 105 branches, was completed with zero critical data loss, ensuring full accuracy, reconciliation, and uninterrupted operational continuity.

The migration addressed complex technical challenges, including high-volume data processing within restricted banking windows, mapping across differing account structures, branch codes, customer identifiers, and GL/symbol hierarchies, as well as remediation of legacy data quality issues. AUTON8 leveraged its MORPH platform to configure governed transformation logic between source and target systems. This approach allowed rapid refinement of mapping rules through dry runs, ensuring consistent outcomes in the final migration and reducing cutover risk.

Farasat Ali Naqvi, EVP Core Banking at UBL, described the project as a significant milestone, noting that AUTON8 MORPH’s no-code, governed, and traceable transformation approach enabled the migration to be delivered with speed and precision. He emphasized that the structured execution minimized operational risk and facilitated a smooth post-migration transition.

Ali Raza, Chief Operating Officer at AUTON8, highlighted the complexity of migrating customer records across 105 branches between two distinct core banking systems while maintaining zero critical data loss. He attributed the successful delivery to AUTON8’s automation-led execution and deep banking domain expertise, with the MORPH platform enabling fully traceable, governed mapping and conversion at scale.

The completion of this migration underscores AUTON8’s position as a trusted partner for large-scale banking transformations. By combining automation with a structured, no-code approach, financial institutions can modernize core platforms while safeguarding accuracy, operational resilience, and customer continuity.

The project follows the merger of United Bank Limited and Silk Bank last year, conducted under the supervision of the State Bank of Pakistan. The migration represents a key step in integrating Silk Bank’s systems into UBL’s infrastructure, strengthening service reliability and operational efficiency for customers across the combined network.

UBL’s successful migration reflects the increasing role of advanced transformation platforms like AUTON8 MORPH in the modernization of Pakistan’s banking sector. As financial institutions continue to upgrade legacy systems, this approach provides a model for reducing operational risk, ensuring data integrity, and accelerating timeframes for complex core banking initiatives.
