Pakistan and China have taken pivotal steps toward expanding bilateral agricultural cooperation as the federal government officially invited Chinese industrial giant FAMSUN Group to establish a modern network of high-tech grain storage silos across the country. The initiative aims to modernize post-harvest management, significantly curb grain losses, and reinforce long-term national food security. Alongside infrastructure development, Pakistani officials urged the Chinese enterprise to explore establishing localized assembly and manufacturing plants for advanced agricultural machinery, signaling a move toward deeper technology transfer and domestic production capabilities.
The bilateral discussions took place during an executive meeting in Islamabad chaired by the Federal Minister for National Food Security and Research, Rana Tanveer Hussain, alongside a senior corporate delegation from FAMSUN Group led by Chief Executive Officer Jack Chen. During the session, both sides reviewed a comprehensive proposal to construct a pilot demonstration silo at the Pakistan Agricultural Research Council campus. This specialized facility is envisioned to function as an operational model for research, practical training, and scientific evaluation, enabling local experts and researchers to familiarize themselves with modern storage technologies.
Minister Rana Tanveer Hussain emphasized that the broader economic partnership between Pakistan and China is transitioning into an advanced phase focused on value addition, industrial collaboration, and scientific innovation. Acknowledging FAMSUN’s nearly two-decade involvement in supporting Pakistan’s grain handling, livestock feed, and food processing industries, the minister encouraged the corporate leadership to expand its investments through long-term strategic ventures. He noted that physical infrastructure alone is insufficient, stressing that workforce development, academic linkages, joint research, and employment creation remain integral components of the bilateral engagement.
To operationalize these objectives, the Ministry requested FAMSUN to send a specialized technical team to inspect existing facilities at the research council and pinpoint targeted avenues for infrastructure integration. Key technical domains highlighted during the discussions included the introduction of intelligent grain management platforms, expansion of crop processing facilities, modernization of livestock feed production, and the adoption of high-efficiency machinery to raise overall farm productivity nationwide.
The FAMSUN delegation expressed strong interest in supporting Pakistan’s agricultural modernization agenda, citing the firm’s extensive global experience in smart agriculture and controlled-atmosphere storage systems. Commending the government’s investment facilitation policies, the company confirmed its readiness to collaborate on mutual priorities. Both parties agreed to maintain structured communication channels to formulate actionable joint ventures centered on technology transfer, practical research, and sustainable agricultural development.
