Oil & Gas Development Company Limited (OGDC) has signed an agreement with Canada-based Synergetic Oil Tools Inc. to deploy advanced Passive Energy Tool technology aimed at improving production efficiency from Pakistan’s heavy crude oil fields. The collaboration represents OGDC’s continued efforts to adopt modern technological solutions to address production challenges and enhance recovery from technically demanding oil reservoirs.
The agreement signing ceremony was held at OGDC Headquarters in Islamabad, where Canadian High Commissioner to Pakistan Tarik Ali Khan attended as the chief guest. OGDC Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer Ahmed Hayat Lak represented the company during the ceremony, while Synergetic Oil Tools President and CEO Brian Herman participated virtually. Senior officials from OGDC, the Canadian High Commission, and Synergetic Oil Tools were also present at the event.
Under the agreement, Synergetic Oil Tools will deploy its Passive Energy Tool technology across OGDC’s heavy oil wells to optimise production performance. The technology is designed to improve flow assurance in highly viscous crude oil reservoirs by adjusting fluid characteristics, allowing oil to move more efficiently through production systems.
According to the agreement details, the technology is expected to help reduce the frequency of workovers, minimise well downtime, lower operational expenses, and decrease dependence on production chemicals. These improvements are aimed at increasing efficiency in heavy crude oil operations, where high viscosity levels often create technical challenges and require additional operational measures to maintain production levels.
Speaking at the ceremony, OGDC Managing Director and CEO Ahmed Hayat Lak said the partnership reflects the company’s commitment to adopting advanced technologies to overcome production challenges in heavy oil reservoirs. He stated that OGDC will continue exploring opportunities with international technology providers to improve production efficiency and maximise recovery from mature and technically complex fields.
Ahmed Hayat Lak further expressed confidence that the deployment of the new technology would contribute to reducing workover requirements, lowering operating costs, and improving overall production performance. The initiative aligns with OGDC’s broader strategy of enhancing operational capabilities through technology adoption and global partnerships.
Canadian High Commissioner to Pakistan Tarik Ali Khan highlighted the importance of Pakistan-Canada cooperation in the energy and critical minerals sectors. He expressed confidence that the introduction of Synergetic’s technology would contribute to strengthening Pakistan’s upstream oil industry and support further collaboration between the two countries in energy-related fields.
