Bank Alfalah And SAWiE Ecosystems Promote Climate Resilient Agriculture Through CSV Roadshow

Bank Alfalah hosted a Climate Smart Village (CSV) roadshow titled “A Collaborative Initiative for Climate Resilient Agriculture,” bringing together policymakers, researchers, farmers, development sector organisations and financial institutions to discuss the growing climate related risks affecting Pakistan’s agriculture sector. The event focused on approaches that can help farming communities strengthen resilience against changing environmental conditions while also improving agricultural productivity and access to formal financial services. The discussions highlighted the connection between climate pressures, farm productivity and the financial resilience of farmers.

The roadshow featured a keynote address by Dr Yusuf Zafar, former Vice President of the Pakistan Central Cotton Committee (PCCC), while Yahya Hameed Wahla, Head of Agri Finance at Bank Alfalah, delivered the opening remarks. Discussions at the event examined how climate related pressures can affect agricultural production and, in turn, influence farmers’ financial stability. Participants also considered the challenges faced by farming communities in accessing formal finance when agricultural output is affected by water shortages, changing weather conditions and other climate related pressures.

A dedicated “Grower’s Voice” session gave farmers an opportunity to directly share their experiences and challenges. Farmers discussed the impact of water scarcity, changing weather patterns and other conditions affecting agricultural production. The session provided an opportunity for farmers to bring practical, on ground experiences into discussions around climate resilience. Their perspectives contributed to the broader conversation on how agricultural practices, financial services and climate adaptation measures can better respond to the realities faced by farming communities.

The roadshow also featured three expert panels covering the impact of climate change on agriculture, sustainable water management and pathways for enabling climate smart agriculture. Representatives from academia, the Asian Development Bank, IFC, FAO and the private sector participated in the discussions. The panels brought together perspectives from research, development organisations, financial institutions and industry to examine the challenges associated with building more resilient agricultural systems and improving the adoption of practices that can help farmers respond to climate related pressures.

Dr Khalid Mahmood, Co founder of SAWiE Ecosystems, also addressed the gathering and discussed the Climate Smart Village Initiative and its work with farming communities. The roadshow concluded with remarks by Chief Guest Prof. Dr Ashfaq Ahmad, Vice Chancellor of Ghazi University. The participation of academic, development sector, private sector and farming representatives reflected the collaborative nature of the initiative and its focus on bringing different stakeholders together around climate resilient agriculture.

The Climate Smart Village Initiative (CSVI) was launched in February 2025 through a partnership between Bank Alfalah and SAWiE Ecosystems, an AgriTech and precision advisory company. The initiative works directly with farming communities to demonstrate climate smart agriculture practices in real farming environments. Its activities cover areas including soil health, water efficient agricultural techniques and mechanised, resource efficient harvesting. The initiative is designed to demonstrate practical approaches that can be adopted by farmers while generating experience from actual on farm applications.

Bank Alfalah’s involvement in the initiative extends beyond conventional agricultural financing. Through the Climate Smart Village programme, the bank is participating in real on farm demonstrations of climate smart agriculture practices with farming communities. This approach is intended to develop a practical evidence base around resilient and financially viable agricultural practices. The experience gained through these demonstrations can help inform discussions on how climate smart farming approaches can be expanded and supported through appropriate financing mechanisms.

The focus on climate smart agriculture is particularly relevant for Pakistan’s farming communities as agricultural production remains exposed to changing weather conditions and pressure on water resources.
