The Pakistan Stock Exchange has partnered with the United Kingdom’s MOBILIST programme to mobilise private investment for sustainable development and climate transition projects in Pakistan. The partnership is aimed at creating greater opportunities for businesses addressing climate and development challenges to access the country’s capital market. Through the collaboration, eligible businesses and sustainable projects will receive support designed to help them access equity capital, technical expertise and advisory services while also increasing their visibility among investors through the public market.
Under the partnership, MOBILIST will work with the Pakistan Stock Exchange’s network of issuers and market intermediaries to identify products that could qualify for support. These products will include initial public offerings and new listed products that can contribute to sustainable development and climate related objectives. The collaboration is expected to help identify businesses and investment opportunities that can benefit from public market financing while supporting the development of sustainable investment products within Pakistan’s capital market.
The MOBILIST programme will provide a combination of equity capital, technical assistance and advisory services to support Pakistani businesses seeking access to the capital market. The assistance is intended to help companies develop suitable investment products and prepare for potential listings on the Pakistan Stock Exchange. By combining financial support with technical and advisory assistance, the programme aims to help businesses strengthen their market readiness and provide investors with additional opportunities to participate in sustainable development focused investments.
Alison Blackburne, Deputy High Commissioner Karachi, said the United Kingdom was proud to partner with the Pakistan Stock Exchange to mobilise private investment towards businesses working on climate and development challenges in emerging markets such as Pakistan. She highlighted the potential for cooperation between development finance and public markets to attract private capital towards projects with sustainable development objectives. She also referred to products such as the Parwaaz Green Action Bond as an example of how public markets and development finance can work together to support sustainable investment and attract private funding.
Farrukh H. Sabzwari, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the Pakistan Stock Exchange, said eligible businesses would have access to equity investment, technical assistance, advisory support and enhanced visibility through the partnership. He said these forms of assistance could help businesses facilitate their listing on the exchange and provide them with greater access to capital through the public market. The collaboration is therefore expected to support companies that are seeking to raise funds while also pursuing projects connected with sustainable development and climate transition.
Sabzwari said the partnership would help bring more sustainable businesses to the public market and create greater opportunities for them to access capital for projects aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals and net zero commitments. The initiative places sustainable businesses and projects within a wider capital market framework, potentially connecting them with investors seeking opportunities linked to development and climate objectives. The collaboration also reflects an effort to expand the range of sustainable investment products available through Pakistan’s public markets.
