The Pakistani rupee continued its positive movement against the US dollar on Wednesday, September 30, closing at 277.11 after gaining one paisa against the US currency. The latest movement extended the rupee’s winning streak against the dollar to 251 consecutive days, marking another session in which the local currency recorded an improvement in its exchange rate.
The rupee has maintained its gradual appreciation against the US dollar since December 25, 2025. The latest exchange rate data showed the dollar at 277.1144 on September 30, compared with 277.1214 on September 29 and 277.1537 on September 28. The figures indicate a continued movement in favour of the Pakistani currency, although the daily changes have remained relatively small.
The rupee’s performance against the dollar has also prompted market expectations around the currency’s movement into October. At its current pace, the local currency could move into the 276 range against the US dollar during October 2026. However, the exchange rate will continue to depend on developments in Pakistan’s foreign exchange market and broader economic conditions.
The rupee recorded mixed movements against other major international currencies during Wednesday’s trading session. It weakened by Rs1.18 against the British pound, with the pound rising from 366.6455 on September 29 to 367.8278 on September 30. Against the euro, the rupee lost 42 paisas, with the euro moving from 314.2141 to 314.6357 during the same period.
The local currency performed differently against the Australian dollar, gaining 35 paisas as the Australian currency moved from 193.6524 on September 29 to 193.3012 on September 30. The rupee also strengthened by around one paisa against the Malaysian ringgit and recorded a smaller improvement against the Chinese yuan. The Malaysian ringgit was quoted at 67.9119, compared with 67.9220 a day earlier, while the Chinese yuan stood at 41.3323 against 41.3386.
Against the Canadian dollar, the Pakistani rupee weakened by around 21 paisas. The Canadian dollar increased from 195.2178 on September 29 to 195.4263 on September 30. The movement against the Gulf currencies remained limited, with the rupee broadly stable against both the UAE dirham and Saudi riyal.
The UAE dirham was quoted at 75.4525 on September 30, compared with 75.4565 on September 29, while the Saudi riyal stood at 73.8007 compared with 73.8085 a day earlier. These changes represented only small movements in the exchange value of the Pakistani currency against both currencies.
The latest exchange rate figures show that the rupee’s movement has not been uniform across international currencies, despite its extended appreciation against the US dollar. The dollar remained the key reference point as the rupee completed its 251st consecutive day of gains, closing September at 277.11. The currency’s performance in October will determine whether the recent gradual trend continues into the next month.
