NED University Organises Shariah E-Commerce Session Featuring Meezan Bank Experts on November 4

The Centre for Islamic Finance and FinTech (CIFFT) at NED University of Engineering and Technology (NEDUET) is set to organise an educational session examining the principles of Shariah-compliant e-commerce and the application of Islamic financial and ethical guidelines in digital marketplaces. Scheduled for November 4, 2026, the session will bring together experts from Meezan Bank to discuss how online business models and digital transactions can operate in accordance with Islamic principles.

Titled “E-Commerce: Shariah Aspect”, the session will focus on the Shariah considerations involved in conducting commercial activities through digital platforms. As e-commerce continues to change how businesses sell products and services, customers make payments and companies manage transactions, questions surrounding ethical practices and religious compliance have become relevant to the development of the digital marketplace. The discussion is intended to explore the principles and practices that guide Shariah-compliant operations in this evolving business environment.

The event will feature two guest speakers from Meezan Bank, bringing professional experience in Islamic banking and Shariah compliance to the discussion. Mufti Zubair Ahmed, Shariah Board Member at Meezan Bank, will participate alongside Jawad Tehsin, Unit Head of the bank’s Shariah Compliance Department. Their contributions are expected to provide participants with insight into the application of Islamic ethical and financial principles to e-commerce activities.

The session will examine how digital business models can be aligned with Shariah requirements, particularly as businesses increasingly depend on online platforms to reach customers and complete commercial transactions. E-commerce involves several interconnected activities, including product sales, payment processing, contractual arrangements and the fulfilment of orders. Understanding the Shariah considerations associated with these activities is important for businesses seeking to conduct their operations in accordance with Islamic financial guidelines.

The participation of Meezan Bank’s Shariah experts will provide an opportunity to discuss the role of Islamic banking knowledge in evaluating digital commercial practices. Shariah compliance is an important consideration in Islamic financial services, where transactions and business arrangements are assessed against established religious and ethical principles. As digital commerce expands, financial institutions, technology providers and businesses face questions about how traditional requirements can be applied to online transactions and emerging payment models.

The programme also reflects the growing intersection of Islamic finance and financial technology. Digital platforms have introduced new ways for businesses and consumers to interact, while electronic payments and online marketplaces have become increasingly important parts of commercial activity. Examining these developments through a Shariah perspective can help students and other participants understand the considerations involved in maintaining ethical and compliant practices in digital business.

The event will take place on Wednesday, November 4, 2026, at 2:00 PM at the Ashraf Habibullah AV Hall, located in the Civil Engineering Department at NED University of Engineering and Technology. The university’s Centre for Islamic Finance and FinTech is hosting the session as part of its engagement with subjects connecting Islamic finance, technology and contemporary business practices.

By bringing together academic and professional perspectives, the session will provide a platform for discussing how Islamic principles relate to the practical requirements of modern e-commerce. The involvement of Meezan Bank representatives will connect the discussion with the experience of professionals working in Shariah governance and compliance within Pakistan’s Islamic banking sector. The programme is expected to offer participants a clearer understanding of the considerations involved in developing and operating digital businesses in line with Islamic ethical and financial principles.
