Ambassador Movlamov Highlights the Need for Stronger CARs-Pakistan Cooperation for Regional Growth

February 7, 2025 – Ambassador of Turkmenistan to Pakistan, Atadjan Movlamov, has stressed the importance of strengthening regional cooperation between Central Asian States (CARs) and Pakistan, noting that such collaboration holds immense potential for mutual growth and development. Speaking at the Central Asia-Pakistan-Azerbaijan Ambassadorial Dialogue of 2025 on Regional Connectivity, Movlamov underscored the need for continued dialogue and strategic efforts to harness the region’s vast cooperation potential. The event, organized by the Institute of Regional Studies (IRS), served as a platform for diplomatic discussions on enhancing connectivity and regional integration.

Ambassador Movlamov emphasized that the leaders of regional countries, supported by diplomatic efforts, have a key role in enhancing cooperation. “I would like to highlight that with the personal contributions and attention of the leaders of regional countries, along with continuous diplomatic support, we will further enhance regional cooperation through dialogue,” he remarked. He expressed his optimism that such engagement would foster better understanding and pave the way for leveraging the untapped potential of regional cooperation.

Drawing attention to Turkmenistan’s foreign policy approach, the ambassador referenced the philosophy of “Dialogue is a guarantee of peace,” declared by the National Leader of the Turkmen People, Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov. Movlamov reiterated that the timely and effective integration of the region’s countries, based on existing geopolitical advantages, should be a collective priority. He outlined that strengthening political and economic ties between countries through the formation of new transport and energy corridors is crucial for the region’s stability and prosperity.

The ambassador highlighted Turkmenistan’s focus on advancing its foreign policy, particularly in the energy and transport sectors. “We view the development of transport and energy cooperation as a priority, not just at the regional level but on a global scale,” Movlamov stated. He also drew attention to Turkmenistan’s proactive stance at the United Nations, where it has consistently proposed initiatives focused on peace, energy, transport, and environmental sustainability. Notably, Turkmenistan has been behind resolutions like “On Reliable and Stable Energy Transit and its Role in Achieving Sustainable Development,” emphasizing its role as a key global player in these domains.

As part of Turkmenistan’s foreign policy, several high-level multilateral dialogues have taken place, covering crucial sectors such as energy, transport, and ecology. In recent years, Turkmenistan has initiated and launched significant infrastructure projects aimed at regional integration. Among the notable projects are the inauguration of the Aqina-Andkhoi railway section in Afghanistan in January 2021 and the commissioning of the 500 kV power transmission line between Turkmenistan and Afghanistan.

Movlamov also highlighted the significance of the Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India Transnational Gas Pipeline (TAPI), with the Serhetabat-Herat section launched in September 2024. The ambassador noted that such projects would not only enhance regional connectivity but also provide a solid foundation for future economic cooperation, job creation, and environmental sustainability in Pakistan.

He further pointed out the importance of multi-modal transport networks, such as the TAP power transmission line and fiber-optic routes, which would significantly improve regional connectivity. The construction of major infrastructure projects has created immense opportunities for foreign investments, contributing to regional prosperity. For Pakistan, the potential benefits of these initiatives are immense, including access to clean energy, natural gas, and enhanced connectivity that can foster economic growth.

Additionally, Movlamov emphasized that business communities play a vital role in expanding trade turnover between the countries. He encouraged the holding of exhibitions and business forums in Turkmenistan, Pakistan, and neighboring countries to create new opportunities for collaboration and mutual benefit.

In closing, Movlamov celebrated the UN General Assembly’s adoption of the resolution declaring 2025 as the “International Year of Peace and Trust,” co-sponsored by 86 nations, including Pakistan. The ambassador believes that this declaration will serve as a pivotal moment for strengthening international relations, offering a platform for peace and further collaboration on regional issues.

Ambassador Movlamov’s remarks highlight the growing importance of regional cooperation between CARs and Pakistan, a partnership that promises substantial benefits for the entire region through enhanced trade, infrastructure, and energy connectivity.
