Engro Powergen Qadirpur Limited Appoints Athar Abrar Khwaja as Chairman and Adeel Qamar as CEO

Engro Powergen Qadirpur Limited (EPQL), a key subsidiary of Engro Energy Limited, has announced significant leadership appointments aimed at strengthening its strategic direction and operational consistency. The company shared this development in an official notice to the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) on Wednesday.

According to the notice, the Board of Directors has re-elected Athar Abrar Khwaja as Chairman of the Board and re-appointed Adeel Qamar as the Chief Executive Officer of the company. The new appointments are effective from October 14, 2025, and both executives will continue in their respective roles until the next election of directors.

The decision reflects EPQL’s strategic choice to maintain experienced leadership at the helm of its power generation business, ensuring stability as the company continues to navigate the evolving energy landscape of Pakistan. By keeping its top leadership intact, EPQL aims to sustain operational efficiency and uphold its role as a major independent power producer (IPP) in the country.

EPQL operates a 217 MW permeate gas-based power plant in Qadirpur, Ghotki, playing a crucial role in the national energy supply. The facility is a combined cycle power plant with a 1+1+1 configuration that includes one gas turbine, one heat recovery steam generator (HRSG), and one steam turbine. This configuration enhances fuel efficiency and ensures steady power output, making the plant an important component of the energy infrastructure.

Industry observers view these appointments as a strategic signal of continuity in leadership and operational vision. The company has positioned itself as a reliable contributor to Pakistan’s energy security, particularly through its focus on efficient energy generation and sustainable practices.

Engro Powergen Qadirpur has historically been part of broader national efforts to diversify energy sources and optimize resource utilization. The Qadirpur plant, in particular, utilizes permeate gas that would otherwise be flared, thereby contributing to both power generation and environmental sustainability goals.

The re-election of Athar Abrar Khwaja and re-appointment of Adeel Qamar also reflect the board’s confidence in their ability to lead EPQL through a period marked by shifting energy demand patterns, regulatory developments, and the growing emphasis on efficiency in the power sector. Their leadership has been instrumental in maintaining plant performance, financial discipline, and alignment with the company’s long-term growth objectives.

As Pakistan’s power sector continues to evolve, leadership stability at key energy companies like EPQL can play a decisive role in ensuring consistent supply, optimizing operations, and meeting national energy needs.
