Pakistan Seeks Strategic Saudi Collaboration to Expand Transport and Infrastructure Network

Pakistan has signaled its intent to strengthen long-term infrastructure cooperation with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, placing a strong emphasis on transport modernization, logistics expansion, and technology-enabled connectivity. The government extended formal invitations to Saudi investors to participate in flagship motorway and road development projects, presenting investment-ready opportunities within Pakistan’s rapidly evolving transport corridor network.

Federal Minister for Communications Abdul Aleem Khan outlined the country’s vision to attract Saudi participation in key national mobility programs. He highlighted a series of strategic roadway initiatives aimed at consolidating Pakistan’s north-south and east-west connectivity, improving trade movement, and supporting tourism-driven economic activity. The projects shared with Saudi representatives include the M-6 Sukkur–Hyderabad Motorway, the M-10 Hyderabad–Karachi Port route, the M-13 Kharian–Rawalpindi Motorway, and the Mansehra–Naran–Jalkhad–Chilas (MNJC) tourism and trade corridor. According to the minister, the MNJC route offers particularly strong commercial prospects due to increasing tourism and hospitality development along northern transit routes, making it a compelling opportunity for the private and public sectors in Saudi Arabia.

The discussion took place on the sidelines of Pakistan International Maritime Expo and Conference (PIMEC 2025) in Karachi, where government and private-sector stakeholders from multiple countries convened to explore cooperation across maritime trade, shipping, logistics, and coastal development. Speaking at the event, Minister Aleem Khan reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to expanding regional trade integration and leveraging global investment interest to accelerate infrastructure modernization. He underscored that Pakistan views its transport and logistics partnerships as core elements of economic diplomacy and a means to support long-term economic resilience.

Pakistan also reaffirmed its dedication to fostering cooperation within the framework of the Strategic Mutual Defence Agreement (SMDA), which has strengthened institutional, trade, and development collaboration between Pakistan and Saudi Arabia. During the meeting, Minister Aleem Khan briefed Saudi Arabia’s Minister of Transport and Logistic Services, Engineer Saleh bin Nasser Aljasser, on ongoing road infrastructure expansion and the government’s continued focus on building new motorway corridors to stimulate trade, enhance freight efficiency, and facilitate domestic and international connectivity.

Beyond investment discussions, both sides emphasized the importance of cooperation in advanced transport technologies, logistics modernization, and improved road safety systems. Pakistan expressed support for Saudi Arabia ahead of the International Maritime Organization (IMO) elections, reinforcing diplomatic alignment across maritime and transport governance platforms.

The engagement concluded with both delegations expressing mutual interest in scaling economic and infrastructure collaboration, with a shared commitment to sustainable development across mobility, trade facilitation, and construction partnerships. Pakistan’s ministry highlighted that enhanced Saudi participation in infrastructure offers strong alignment with the nation’s long-term development agenda and its objective to position itself as a robust regional logistics and transit economy.
