Pakistan’s foreign exchange reserves continued to record an increase during the latest reported week, with reserves held by the State Bank of Pakistan rising by $13.1 million to $17.04 billion as of July 31, 2026. The latest figures released by the State Bank of Pakistan showed that the central bank’s reserves increased from $17.0299 billion recorded a week earlier on July 24, 2026, representing a weekly increase of 0.08 percent.
The rise in reserves held by the central bank contributed to an overall improvement in Pakistan’s liquid foreign exchange position. According to the latest data, the country’s total liquid foreign exchange reserves increased by $32.5 million, or 0.14 percent, during the week under review. Total reserves reached $22.4746 billion by July 31, 2026, compared with $22.4421 billion recorded on July 24, 2026.
The increase was also supported by higher foreign exchange holdings maintained by commercial banks. Reserves held by commercial banks rose by $19.4 million during the week, reaching $5.4316 billion from $5.4122 billion a week earlier. This represented a weekly increase of 0.36 percent. The movement in both central bank and commercial bank reserves resulted in the overall $32.5 million increase in the country’s total liquid foreign exchange reserves.
The latest figures indicate that Pakistan’s foreign exchange position has also strengthened over the course of the current calendar year. Since the beginning of 2026, foreign exchange reserves have increased by $987.26 million, equivalent to a 6.04 percent rise. The continued increase in reserves provides an important indicator of movements in the country’s external liquidity position and the capacity of the financial system to maintain foreign currency holdings.
The State Bank of Pakistan remained the largest holder of the country’s foreign exchange reserves at the end of the latest reporting week. Its holdings stood at $17.043 billion on July 31, 2026, compared with $17.0299 billion on July 24, 2026. The $13.1 million weekly increase brought the central bank’s reserves to slightly above the $17 billion level.
Commercial banks, meanwhile, held $5.4316 billion in net foreign reserves as of July 31, 2026. Their holdings increased from $5.4122 billion during the previous week, adding $19.4 million to the banking sector’s foreign exchange position. The stronger increase in commercial bank reserves compared with the State Bank of Pakistan’s holdings accounted for a notable portion of the overall weekly rise.
Taken together, reserves held by the State Bank of Pakistan and commercial banks stood at $22.4746 billion at the end of the week. The figure compares with $22.4421 billion recorded seven days earlier, reflecting a net weekly improvement of $32.5 million. The data provides an updated view of Pakistan’s external reserve position as the country continues to monitor foreign exchange liquidity and broader economic conditions.
The latest reserve figures form part of the regular weekly data released by the State Bank of Pakistan and provide a snapshot of the country’s foreign exchange holdings across the central bank and commercial banking system. With the calendar year increase standing at $987.26 million, the latest figures show that Pakistan’s reserves have maintained an upward movement through the period covered by the data.
